TOME NYC Confirmed as Opening Show at MBFWA 2015

New York-based, Australian-born label TOME NYC has been confirmed as the opening show for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. If its New York shows are anything to go by, this is going to be a hard act to follow.

Designers Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin made the decision just last Wednesday, with the official announcement released this morning. The showcase, which is an unseen Pre-Fall collection, will take place on Monday, April 13, during the 10am time slot.

“It’s a very, very tight schedule but you’d be surprised what you can do in three weeks,” Ramon told ELLE Australia. “I think it’s going to be a beautiful collection, it’s perfect for the Australian market.”

Although this marks the first time the home-grown label has ever taken part in MBFWA, the four-year-old brand is a clear favourite over at New York Fashion Week, and even collaborated with Sarah Jessica Parker for its Fall 15 show

Now, though, the boys are back on home turf and are keen to show us what they’re made of, regardless of their success abroad. “It’s exciting,” Ramon explained to ELLE Australia. “Just from the conversations that we’re having with people in the lead-up to it, people are genuinely excited, and it’s such a nice feeling to have that support and to show where you’re welcome.”

Just quietly, it’s about freaking tome.

In addition, other labels like Johanna Johnson, Michael Lo Sordo and Gary Bigeni have also recently jumped on board for the event next month. See the full MBFWA 2015 schedule here.
