Shh… don’t let Deadline’s “ethnic” TV casting concern troll Nellie Andreeva know that The Daily Show has named a successor to Jon Stewart and -gasp!- he’s a person of color! 31-year-old South African Trevor Noah, a newbie to cast, has been selected to host the show once Stewart leaves his post.
Noah made his debut on the Comedy Central show in December and a mere few months later, he’s getting this major promotion. Of course, the comedian expects there to be a bit of backlash over his appointment – after all, he’s only actually appeared on the show three times, but he’s already well-equipped to handle any criticism that might be thrown his way. “We live in a world where some people still say Beyoncé can’t sing,” he told The New York Times. “Clearly I’m not immune to that.” At least we know he’s confident!
It is not yet known exactly when Jon Stewart’s last show will be, but at least now we know that once he leaves, The Daily Show will be in good hands.
