Caitlyn Jenner Makes BBC’s Woman’s Hour 2015 Power List of Influencers

Is Cailtyn Jenner having the best year ever? Perhaps. After making her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair and being announced as the recipient of the ESPY’s Arthur Ashe Courage Award, she has now been bestowed another honor, this time from across the pond.

Jenner has been included on the Women’s Hour Power List of 10 female influencers. Jenner joins familiar names like Anna Wintour, Sia and Angelina Jolie for this esteemed honor. This year’s crop of women were chosen based on the impact they have had on women’s lives “not just because of their job title but because of their personal ability to influence others.”

Jenner, who is believed to be one of the most famous transgender women in the world, seems to fit the bill quite nicely. After all, her coming out certainly boosted visibility for transgender people and sparked a national conversation. However you feel about her and her privilege, it cannot be denied that she made people more aware of transgender issues. Hopefully, her high-profile status will help improve life for transgender men and women who face very real challenges like employment discrimination, sexual violence and more. The conversation does not begin and end with Caitlyn Jenner, but her pop culture cred makes the discussion a bit louder for many people.
