Baz Luhrmann’s Sydney Mega Mansion Is For Sale

With Sydney house prices soaring through the roof, Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin‘s $16 million home seems like an OK spend.

The high-profile pair, who we can thank for films like Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet and The Great Gatsby, have put their Darlinghurst home in Sydney up on the market, and it’s the greatest house porn we’ve ever laid eyes on.

Domain reports that the 1880s Victorian manor spans 2,700 square metres, and was used as the Bazmark production company’s HQ.

Director Baz and costume designer Catherine have called the mega mansion home since 1997, leasing it shortly after they married. They bought it in 2006 for $10 million, but Catherine has put her serious grandeur flavour on the property with an extensive renovation.

The couple say that they would “never abandon Australia”, and are looking for a smaller space as a base down under. “As we have been spending shorter periods of time in Australia and are more full time in New York, our priorities centre around a settled school life for our children,” the couple said in a statement (via Domain).

Baz and Catherine have previously put the prime real estate on the market in 2013, hoping for a $15 million sale, but took it down when finding a new home proved too difficult.

They might not want to repeat history, though, with Michael Pallier and Harriet France of Sotheby’s International claiming local and overseas buyers have already shown interest in the property.
