At the CFDA Awards, handbag design duo Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel let it slip that they would be adding shoes to their label and yesterday, at the brand’s Spring 2016 presentation, we got to see the design house’s first attempt at footwear in full.
Mansur Gavriel debuted a range of four new bag styles (can we talk about those circular bags? perfection) along with four shoe styles that come in five different heel heights. The suede gems echoed the minimalist elegance the house is known for. Mansur and Gavriel did not shy away from color either – as is appropriate for spring, the shoes came in bright red and pretty pastel colors, but there are also neutral tones available.
For a shoe debut, we couldn’t help but feel a little underwhelmed. Yes, the colors are pretty and the footwear is wearable and chic, but we’re not sure if they’re as groundbreaking for us as the brand’s handbags, which season after season fail to disappoint. While we have no doubts these will sell like hotcakes (the Mansur Gavriel hype is real, friends) we have to admit we were left feeling a little meh about these.
