Jessica Mauboy Missed Melbourne Cup Performance Over Wardrobe Woes

Even though the “Burn” crooner  was introduced to the stage by announcers at Flemington Racecourse, replacement Nadia stepped in to sing “Advance Australia Fair” as Jessica faced issues with “clothing and preparation”, according to her representative.

In the worst kind of morning after for Jessica, 2GB radio king Alan Jones suggested that the 26-year-old Australian Idol alum refused to wear shoes supplied by Myer, the official race sponsor.

“We were very disappointed that Jessica Mauboy was on course and didn’t perform today,” Victoria Racing Club chief executive Simon Love told The Daily Telegraph. “We were grateful that Nadia Aya could perform.” The Australian reports that Victoria Racing Club have declined to comment on rumours surrounding Jessica’s wardrobe.

Who knows. Maybe she just wanted to wear this?

As viewers, we totally would have been down for that.

UPDATE: Jessica has spoken out about missing the performance, saying she is “so sorry” and “of all the days for things to go wrong, unfortunately this was the one”, but hasn’t addressed the wardrobe rumours about not wearing shoes by Myer.

Thank you to everyone for all the messages of concern, I am OK. I am so sorry I didn't perform at the Melbourne Cup...
