Sofia Vergara’s (Stunning) Wedding Gown Took 1,657 Hours to Make

Sofia Vergara is officially a married woman. And yesterday’s ceremony was quite different from the disastrous nuptials of her fictional character, Gloria, on Modern Family. For one, she’s marrying Magic Mike heartthrob Joe Manganiello. And Sofia and Joe’s ceremony, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, came replete with its own hashtag: #Jofía, a play on the couple’s names. One thing Sofia and Gloria do have in common is their unabashed love for sexy dresses. A self-proclaimed “Bridezilla,” Sofia was adamant about wearing a gown that celebrated her famous figure. “Personally, I know that I don’t like the natural look that some brides do. I’m 43, I don’t really need to look like a virgin getting married,” she told People. “I want to look sexy. I want to look great. I want to look good and [wear] something that I know is going to look good in pictures.”

Her Zuhair Murad gown exceeded her expectations. She donned a Baroque-inspired silk tulle gown with hand embroidery along the bodice, a waist-cinching pearl belt and a detachable overskirt. Designer Zuhair Murad told Vogue the dress incorporated 11 pounds of sequins, 6.6 pounds of pearls and 350 crystals. Over 30 atelier employees worked on the gown, which took over 1,657 hours to make. The labor-intensive process spanned two continents, a collaboration between Murad’s Paris and Beirut ateliers.

“A huge effort,” Murad admitted, “but she deserves it.” We’re sure Joe was a fan of the gown and the custom Mark Zunino cocktail dress Sofia wore to their pre-wedding bash, where he serenaded her with “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Yes, there’s video. Thank us later.
