As the David Jones vs. Myer battle continues, Myer has pulled out the big guns by enlisting Victoria’s Secret model Shanina Shaik to front Thursday night’s Autumn 2016 Fashion Launch.
The 24-year-old will walk alongside the face of the department store, Jennifer Hawkins, as well as ambassadors Rachael Finch, Kris Smith and Jodi Anasta at Barangaroo Reserve, which will replace the show’s usual stomping ground of Sydney’s Carriageworks.
“We are thrilled to have Shanina Shaik joining us at our Myer Autumn 2016 Fashion Launch in Sydney on Thursday as our special international guest,” Myer’s deputy CEO, Daniel Bracken, told The Daily Telegraph. “Shanina will appear alongside our gorgeous Face of Myer, Jennifer Hawkins, to showcase our stunning Myer Autumn 2016 Australian and International Designer collections.”
Shanina’s recruitment follows former-ambassador Kate Peck’s departure from the company last month, after it was confirmed that the MTV presenter wouldn’t be re-signed with Myer after a two-year contribution. “Perhaps I’m a little too much of a wild child to be part of the Myer family but regardless, I love them dearly and I had a ball,” she told The Daily Telegraph at the time.
With Kris, Jodi and Rachael on contract until the end of the year, plus Jennifer’s decade-long commitment, it wouldn’t be so unlikely for Shanina to move up the ranks and freshen things up in the role of ambassador. After former VS model Miranda Kerr left David Jones in 2013, Shanina could be just what Myer needs to stay ahead of its competition.
With Shanina potentially being primed to one day take over Jennifer’s covetable spot, it would be quite the coincidence, seeing as Jennifer helped launch Shanina’s modelling career during Make Me A Supermodel in 2008, where she placed as runner-up. “She’s beautiful and an amazing model and a great fashion icon for Australia,” Shanina said of Jennifer.
Shanina’s mother dearest will be flying to Sydney to watch her daughter model local and international designers on the night, but fiancé DJ Ruckus won’t be able to make it.
