You Won’t Believe Which Fashion Week Designers Ranked Highest Among Consumers

Since New York Fashion Week ended, we’ve examined every facet of the 10-day marathon from fall fashion trends to runway diversity. Now, a new study by First Insight Inc. looks at which New York-based brands resonated most with consumers.

The company surveyed 3,600 consumers about 16 designers and 294 styles to discover the top four brands. Elie Tahari emerged as the favorite brand among respondents aged 19-44. Participants over age 45 preferred Carolina Herrera

While Carolina Herrera may have been popular among respondents over 45, the collection wasn’t so well-received in our forums. “Wow, this could be her first collection that I dislike,” Koibito confessed. Liberty33r1b echoed that sentiment, saying, “I love it, but it lacks something…”

The study also found that men leaned toward Ralph Lauren as their brand of choice and Hervé Leger by Max Azria enjoyed the “largest increase in positive sentiment” with a 10% gain from last year.

Indeed, our forum comments reflected an increase in positive sentiment. “I actually like this [Hervé Leger] collection much more than I’ve liked anything they’ve done in previous seasons. Their look is changing noticeably and I like seeing this progression,” said AnaD.

“I have to applause them [for] trying really hard [and] evolving. I can see something different though [the collection] still [reflects the] core of the brand,” elle_gb chimed in.

Participants of the study also weighed in on the color and style of the clothing seen on the runways. They chose purple and white as the most preferred colors for the second year in a row. Pink landed in the third spot with 36.8 percent favorability. Green also rose in popularity, increasing from 23.8 percent last year to 36.6 percent this year. Though blue was named as a Pantone Fall 2016 color, it didn’t fare well among consumers, falling from 35.1 percent last year to 31 percent this year. Florals emerged as the most preferred pattern, gaining a 37 percent reading this year versus 29.9 percent the year prior.

So the verdict is in: Elie Tahari, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Lauren and Hervè Leger are the favored designers, purple and white are the preferred colors and florals are the pattern of choice. Anyone else surprised to find fan favorites Marc Jacobs and DVF missing from this list?
