Michelle Obama Recruits Zendaya, Kelly Rowland and More for New Girl Power Single

While Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton duke it out as the frontrunners for the next presidency, the rest of us are left to lament the day the Obamas moves out of the White House. Michelle Obama’s latest venture is proof positive that we’ve never had a cooler First Family.

Mrs. Obama linked up today’s hottest stars for the ultimate girl power anthem. Written by Diane Warren, the new song This Is For My Girls features names like Zendaya, Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliott, Lea Michele, Kelly Rowland and Janelle Monáe.

Warren described the song as “We Are the World meets Lady Marmalade,” and told Billboard, “We haven’t had an anthem like this in a while. I envisioned the record being with all these different women, never just one girl singing on it. With Kelly Rowland on it, it’s almost like an updated Destiny’s Child record. I think it can be a huge worldwide anthem. I hope it becomes that.” Indeed.

On #WomensEqualityDay, let’s remember that all it takes is one girl to make change in this world. #LetGirlsLearn

The song serves as a precursor for Michelle Obama’s appearance at the SXSW festival, where some of the featured artists (like Missy Elliott) will appear on a panel with the First Lady. If you download This Is For My Girls on iTunes, rest assured your money’s going to a good cause. All proceeds will benefit Mrs. Obama’s Let Girls Learn initiative, founded to provide equal access to education for adolescent girls across the globe.
