Tyra Banks (Hopefully) Just Put an End to the Supermodel War

Yet again, Tyra Banks has reached a decision.

In this instance, the girls (metaphorically) standing before her, Kendall Jenner and Stephanie Seymour, represent two modeling factions: today’s leading ladies (Kendall) and those who dominated the 90s (Seymour). However, Tyra (symbolically) holds not just one picture in her hand, but two. The America’s Next Top Model creator is here to end the generational war once and for all, via blog post. (For those who haven’t heard, Stephanie Seymour, Rebecca Romijn and other 90s fashion mainstays have allegedly said the new set isn’t worthy of the “Supermodel” title.)

Last Wednesday, Tyra foreshadowed the unveiling of said peace treaty cum personal essay with the above tweet. Shortly thereafter, the reality television queen shared a link to the post, entitled “Model War,” claiming it was her “duty to speak up” on the matter. (more…)

Steven Meisel’s Prada Campaign for Fall 2016 Is a ‘Train Wreck’ (Forum Buzz)

The most highly anticipated campaign of the season is finally here. After a spectacular Pre-Fall campaign, we were expecting great things from Prada for Fall 2016. Lensed by the legendary Steven Meisel, models Vanessa Axente, Caitie Greene and Kiki Willems take the spotlight this season, each photographed with the same wet hairstyle and not doing much else. Meisel’s cut and paste job did not go down well on our forums.

Prada F/W 2016.17 : Vanessa Axente, Caitie Greene & Kiki Willems by Steven Meisel

It was fair to declare the campaign a flop within seconds. “God, I hate that greasy wet hairstyle so much,” cried out Scotty straight away.

“Jesus, what a train wreck!! Are we sure this is the version which will go to print and digital? There’s absolutely nothing good about this! And Vanessa Axente, really?” asked a horrified Benn98. (more…)

It’s Happening: Kylie Jenner Is Opening Up a Kylie Cosmetics Store

In the biggest Lip Kit news to rock the Internet since, oh, last week (her Smurf- Americana-inspired matte blues go on sale today), Kylie Jenner just announced (via Snapchat, as with all else) that her eponymous cosmetics brand is about to get its own brick-and-mortar location. Unless the reality star hopped on a plane and somehow resisted the urge to document herself while doing so, her beauty empire’s flagship location looks to be California.

“Looking for Kylie Cosmetics stores right now,” Kylie revealed in a snap, panning around a deserted retail space. “Makeup store’s about to be lit!” she proclaimed in the next segment. (more…)

Watch: Amy Schumer Is Just as Frustrated With That Gun Control Ruling as You Are

Yesterday, the Senate voted to keep a proposal to block gun sales to suspected terrorists on the bargaining table but even that minimal measure has been placed in a bureaucratic limbo that will likely prevent it from being adopted anytime soon. Cue a deep, deep sigh.

Amy Schumer has been an outspoken advocate of gun control ever since a gunman opened fire in a Louisiana theater during a screening of Trainwreck, claiming two causalities before taking his own life. In 2015, she broached the topic on SNL. This April, her own Comedy Central series, Inside Amy Schumer, dedicated an entire episode to the subject of gun control (entitled “Welcome to the Gun Show”). However, in light of the recent mass shooting in Orlando and yesterday’s Senate ruling, the no-nonsense comedian and Vogue cover girl released yet another sketch communicating her disgust with legislators’ mishandling of the issue. Kerry Washington, Emma Watson and Serena Williams Want Women to #LeanInTogether

The old maxim “Behind every great man there is a great woman” is about as relevant as the sanitary belt. In today’s world, “Behind every successful woman is another successful woman” — at least according to Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, coiner of the term Lean In and founder of the women’s nonprofit organization of the same name.

In Lean In’s new campaign, “Together Women Can,” the best-selling author and champion of women in the workforce asks all women to #LeanInTogether — with a little help from a #GirlSquad to rival Taylor Swift’s. The campaign’s promotional video features powerful women (Kerry Washington, Emma Watson, Lena Dunham, Megyn Kelly, Eva Longoria, Serena Williams, Abby Wambach) from the entertainment, sports and television industries describing just how crucial women are to the success of fellow women in the workplace.

Each celebrity names the badass female who had the greatest impact on her career. Kerry Washington opens the video, attesting, “I’m not sure what my career would look like if not for Shonda Rhimes.” For Emma Watson, that person is Sophia Coppola, Lena Dunham shouts out Jenny Konner (to the surprise of no one), Serena Williams thanks her big sister and so on and so forth.
