Frances Bean Cobain Signs on as Executive Producer for a Documentary About Her Father

Frances Bean Cobain was just around two years old when Kurt Cobain took his life. Now, the 22-year-old is working on a documentary about her father, in collaboration with director Brett Morgen. This will be the first documentary backed by members of Cobain’s family – in fact, they’ve given Morgen their full stamp of approval and Frances Bean has signed on as Executive Producer of the film.

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck has been in the works for quite some time – Morgen started on the project in 2007. The film is said to have several hours of never before seen or heard audio and video from the late rocker, as well as visual art pieces created by Cobain himself. All this new material has been unearthed thanks to the support of Cobain’s family, who allowed Morgen to dig into Kurt’s archives and personal works in order to flesh out the film.

Frances Bean tweeted some excited words about the documentary, which she calls “an intense yet wonderful examination of Kurt’s life & art.”  You’ll be able to catch the film on HBO once it drops next year.

Forum Members Weigh in on Issa Lish’s Vogue Mexico Cover (Forum Buzz)

After rave reviews for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s cover for Vogue Mexico’s November issue, the magazine now releases its latest installment. Issa Lish stars on the December 2014 cover as well as Vogue Latin America’s December cover. Photographed by Alexei Hay, the Mexican model strikes her best pose while wearing a show-stopping ensemble from Balmain. According to our forum members, this is the first time in ages a Mexican model has fronted Vogue Mexico, so major kudos to them!

Yet our forum members are left with mixed reactions. “Wow, I’m bored to death,” disapproves xCupcakex.

Oxymore doesn’t seem impressed: “I love that red Balmain fur! But her… she looks bored or on drugs.”

“She looks half sleep/bored to death on the cover,” slates inwhiterooms.

Issa cannot catch a break from our forum members this time around. “Her career didn’t really go anywhere did it?” questions an underwhelmed A.D.C.

TREVOFASHIONISTO soon comes to Issa’s defense and replies, “Steven Meisel Vogue Italia anniversary cover, a Coach campaign by Steven Meisel, the Balmain campaign by Mario Sorrenti, very exclusive and top notch runway season, and an OG Vogue Mexico cover not a good career for a model’s first full season? Vogue Mexico may not be the biggest of Vogues but I’m sure for her (being Mexican) it’s probably a proud moment for her and her family.”

“I’m here for Issa! Not in the slightest groundbreaking but Issa looks outstanding. How long has it been since a Mexican model has been on their cover? Way too long!” enthuses TheoG.

Issa was shot for a series of fashion stories for the issue and those can, of course, be previewed inside the thread here. Be sure to also let us know what you think of Vogue Mexico’s efforts this month!

Ferguson Supporters Call for a Black Friday Boycott

Supporters of Michael Brown won’t be opening their wallets this Black Friday weekend, now that the Michael Brown Leadership Coalition has asked concerned citizens across the country to boycott the shopping event in support of the young teenager who was gunned down by police officer Darren Wilson.

Social media has been the outlet of choice for activists to spread the word and encourage people to abstain from cashing in on the buying frenzy that makes up for the biggest shopping weekend of the year. The hope is that by not supporting these symbols of capitalism, the country will reconsider the way it treats its citizens in our justice system. As one advocate @stankofa tweeted, “If our lives don’t matter to them, our protests don’t, either. Take away what matters: their money. #BoycottBlackFriday.”

New Black Panther Party member Dacia Polk told International Business Times“We are asking you to withdraw your participation the entire weekend. There will not be business as usual in America while our people are being killed.”

This is one of many efforts by supporters of Brown and his family to attempt to make positive change in the wake of the Grand Jury decision not to indict Wilson for killing the unarmed black teen.

Eva Mendes on How She Named Her Baby

Eva Mendes is a new mother to a little girl with Ryan Gosling and through her pregnancy and the following months, has kept a pretty low profile. It’s understandable. She is a celebrity after all, and as we know, that affords little privacy. Indeed, it’s amazing how inconspicuous Mendes has been since giving birth to little Esmeralda Amada.

But Mendes finally resurfaced for an interview with Violet Grey and the talk, of course, was firmly on her status as a new mom and how she managed to keep her pregnancy a secret for so long. The actress told the beauty site that the choice to keep her pregnancy private was the first in a long road dedicated to upholding her daughter’s privacy. “I know that it seems all very innocuous when you’re flipping through a tabloid at the doctor’s office or see a photo of a pregnant lady online, but I find the media’s ‘bump watch’ obsession to be both intrusive and stressful. So I made a decision to eject myself from it completely. I was like, ‘Annnnd I’m out.’”

Mendes says she knew for a while she was going to have a little girl and that she and Gosling had a lot of fun naming her. “We both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame and just think it’s a beautiful name. Her middle is Amada, which was my grandmother’s name. It means ‘beloved’ in Spanish.”

Mendes seems pretty committed to upholding Esmeralda’s privacy, so there’s no telling how long it will be until we get a glimpse of the tyke. But one thing’s for sure: the girl is lucky to have parents so dedicated to protecting her in the crazy world of Hollywood.

Is John Galliano Presenting at the British Fashion Awards?

Image: WENN

Image: WENN

John Galliano has kept a pretty low profile in the years following “I love Hitler”-gate. Save for a few interviews and new job appointments, the designer has mostly stayed away from the usual fashion functions. That is, maybe, until now. Word on the street is that Galliano may make an appearance at the upcoming British Fashion Awards, and that he may be presenting Anna Wintour with the coveted Outstanding Achievement Award.

WWD says the British Fashion Council would not confirm if the rumor is true or not and as we know, keeping mum on a situation isn’t exactly a denial. Of course, we will have to wait until December 1, the night of the BFAs, to see if Galliano does show up, though something tells us there may be some truth to these reports…
