Tom Hardy Has Deep, Deep Feelings About Track Pants

Image: WENN

We’ll be honest — the only time we wanted to hear about Tom Hardy‘s pants was contingent upon whether or not he planned to remove them. At least, until now. Turns out The Dark Knight Rises actor is very passionate about track pants, as we found out in this eight-minute rant published in Esquire. Not since Kanye West went on that tirade about inventing leather jogging pants has there been such an impassioned speech about the article of clothing.

Apparently, the actor was given a sampling of track pants, none of which pleased him. In fact, he was very displeased with the selection, a sentiment which he did not hesitate to freely express.

Some highlights:

On pants never meeting his strict specifications: “…I have a very clear line, when it comes to pants. ‘Will my beard look cooler in these pants? And can I make a clean run for the border in them?’ You know what I mean? And you know what’s a good start? Not looking like I’m a member of One Direction—that’s a good start. “

On the proper use for track pants: “You can put stuff in the pockets. You can herd pedestrians into safe zones and take out the rubbish in them, your naked torso sweating and rippling in the sunlight. You can do the washing-up in them, barefoot and walking around the house. You can keep things in pockets and stuff like that. That’s what pants are for.”

Minnesota-born Brooklyn hipster transplants are to blame for the meager pant options:  “…the pants that I’m seeing look like they’re all sorts of metrosexual weird. The kind of thing that was coughed out of Minnesota and spat onto the streets of Brooklyn in the last ten years, for a secret reason that wasn’t fair to any of us.”

He’s really annoyed that they gave him pants his wife would probably steal from him, leaving him in nothing but his knickers: “Because these are the pants that are supposed to be worn by the girlfriend. You know what I mean? On Sunday morning. They’re those pants. You say, ‘Sugar, can I have my pants back?’ And she’s like, ‘No. I’m comfortable in your pants. Fuck off.’ So you have to wear boxer shorts in the cold. You have to go and shiver. You have to make tea and walk around in baggy, baggy underpants that your balls hang out of. And when your neighbors come to the door to give you garden tools and they look at you like, ‘Where are your pants?’ And you can’t say, ‘My wife is wearing them.’”

Fashion makes no sense: “This sounds like common sense. But there’s nothing common about sense, my friend. Especially in the fashion world.”

Oh, Tom, we hope you someday find a pair of track pants that suit you.

Members of our forums share varied opinions regarding Karlie’s new cover. “Cute cover. Karlie really has incredible legs!” enthused Nepenthes.

“I love it! It’s very simple but the accent is on the model herself. Great cover from Russian Vogue this time,” replied a positive Srdjan.

Also on board with the cover is KateTheGreatest, who writes, “I like the cover but then again I am a sucker for long legs. I’m even more happy to be seeing so much of Karlie, there was a period when I didn’t like her work that much but I think she is now better than ever before. Looking forward to the editorial.”

There are a select few who aren’t so certain, though. “I like her pose and this blue background. Unfortunately her face is too much Photoshopped,” commented narcyza.

Karlie’s best asset is the only redeeming quality, according to tigerrouge: “A great set of legs and… that’s about it.”

“Nice pair of legs and that’s all,” posted Nymphaea, in agreement regarding Karlie’s endless legs being the best and main focus of the shot.

So, a boring or beautiful cover from Vogue Russia this time around? Share your own opinion inside the thread here.

Sarah Burton on Designing Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress, How She Almost Passed Over Role at McQueen

Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton has always been pretty shy about the notoriety that comes with helming such an important fashion house. After McQueen (called “Lee” by Burton and personal friends of the late designer) committed suicide in 2010, Burton was appointed head of the fashion house that boasts such a haunting legacy. Obviously, in the years following, she’s done the label a great service, carrying on the spirit of McQueen with her own gentle, less tortured take on his aesthetic.

Burton sat down with the Telegraph to talk about life four years after the passing of McQueen, her childhood and — the question everyone seems to be dying to ask her three years later — what it was like designing Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress.

Burton has kept pretty quiet about the experience, mostly because of her penchant for privacy, but tells the Telegraph all about designing the wedding dress that will be etched on our minds for generations to come. “I know we live in a culture obsessed with fame, but I happen to believe privacy is a virtue, and the relationship I have with my clients is private,” she said. “I loved making the dress, I loved adapting my ideas to suit the person and the occasion, and we put our hearts into it. I respect the intimate nature of that lovely project and I respect the friendships that were forged during it.”

It’s hard to believe that with all her success at McQueen, Burton at one time was thinking of leaving. Right after Lee died, she was approached to head another major fashion house. A co-worker told her that she would be forever haunted if she stayed at McQueen. She didn’t accept — and the house is better for it today.

GAP to Open 3 New Australian Stores by 2015

Following OrotonGroup’s acquisition of GAP Australia late last year, the company has now revealed it will be opening three new stores by 2015. As reported by Ragtrader, the stores will be opening from October through to December in Sydney suburbs.

The first will open in the redeveloped hot property of Macqaurie Centre on October 16, along with other big-gun international retailers like H&M, Zara and Uniqlo. November will see the opening of GAP in Westfield Miranda, but Westfield Parramatta will house the biggest GAP store in Australia to date when it opens in December.

GAP launched in Australia back in 2010 but currently has only three stores, with two in Melbourne and one in Sydney’s CBD.

Andreja Pejic Had a Fantastic AMA Session on Reddit

Andreja Pejic

On Monday, we were all treated to perhaps one of the best AMAs on Reddit: Model Andreja Pejic fielded questions from fans for an hour, with questions ranging from modeling and her career to transitioning from male to female. It was a wonderfully supportive discussion — kind of surprising given Reddit’s reputation.

We rounded up some of our favorite questions and answers, and have become even bigger fans of Andreja after this.

Which are easier and/or more fun to model, men’s clothes or women’s clothes?

Which is easier – well I can only speak for my personal experience, I was always drawn to more feminine things, so I felt a lot more comfortable in women’s clothes and enjoyed them more. But there’s something really cool about dressing as the opposite gender too. So I’ve enjoyed both.

What is your daily eyebrow maintenance routine? They look amazing!

Thank you!

Well I don’t mess with them TOO much because bushy eyebrows are very much in right now. I just have a beautician that cleans them up, every month I would say? But it’s very minimal. The key is minimal.

Since you’re probably the only person who truly knows, how would you say the treatment differs between male and female models in the industry? Have you noticed any dramatic changes?

Yeah, there’s a big difference between how male models & female models are treated.

Definitely female models are at a higher level in the industry, it’s a business, so women definitely dominate. I think male modeling is still developing and to be a male model is still developing, whereas to be a female model is very much developed.

Wanna go out with me? I’ve got a coupon for the Olive Garden.

Hahaha!

I like Red Lobster better.

What do you think people misunderstand most about transgender people today?

I would say the fact that we are human beings like anyone else, and we strive to have happy and fulfilling lives, like anyone else. And that we are like everybody else.

Hi Andreja, another big fan of yours here. My question is what’s your favorite childhood memory?

My favorite childhood memory is the first time I received a Barbie from a neighbor, because I kept begging my mom to buy me a Barbie, I never got one, so my neighbor donated one to me. So that was a nice.

For more, check out the AMA.
