Vogue Netherlands Just Produced Its Best Cover Yet With Julia Bergshoeff (Forum Buzz)

Vogue Netherlands missed the opportunity to have a stellar cover last month by ruining a gorgeous shot of Romee Strijd with a rather mediocre layout. This month, however, the mag hits the nail RIGHT on the head with a clean and pure cover featuring Julia Bergshoeff. Making a return to the cover for a third time, Julia was captured wearing a dreamy off-white Chanel dress by Annemarieke van Drimmelen.

Our forum members unanimously praised the cover. “Easily their best cover to date,” declared a very affirmative MON the second the cover broke.

Nepenthes agreed, enthusing, “Definitely one of their best covers! Love the serenity of it!” (more…)

Léa Seydoux Brings the Sex Appeal on UK ELLE’s June 2016 Cover (Forum Buzz)

It’s about time for those Beyoncé covers of ELLE to take a bow from newsstands worldwide and the British edition of is one of the first to unveil its new installment. The magazine failed to make an impression with its reprint last month and hasn’t really pulled out all the stops since that Kylie Jenner cover back in February. But that has all changed with the release of its June 2016 cover. In comes French actress Léa Seydoux wearing Louis Vuitton (obvs) and commanding our attention with an intense stare in the image shot by photographer Kai Z Feng.

Members of our forums fell head over heels for ELLE‘s latest. “One of their best covers in quite some time for me,” praised honeycombchild straight away.

“Oh wow, she’s certainly taking charge of this pose! Love her stare, finally something which will catch your eye on the newsstand. And the lavender backdrop actually works well this time around,” raved Benn98. (more…)

Sarah Jessica Parker Delivered the Perfect Shutdown to Her Met Gala Outfit Critic

Who dares take on Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion sense?

Blogger Ivy Marshall criticised Sarah Jessica Parker‘s wardrobe choice for the ‘Manus X Machina’-themed Met Gala last night, which held a strict dress code heralding the crossover of technology and fashion.

Marshall tweeted that SJP (among others) did not stick to the theme. “The 2016 Met Gala Theme was ‘Manus X Machina; Fashion in the age of technology,'” she said, “and this trio didnt get the memo @sarahjessicaparker@dvf @madonna.”

Vogue Mexico Clearly Picked the Wrong Cover Shot of Taylor Hill (Forum Buzz)

Our forums gave Vogue Mexico a standing ovation last month for a terrific cover featuring Dominican Republic beauty Ysaunny Brito. For its May 2016 offering, the magazine taps another up-and-coming model, American Taylor Hill. The one-time face of Juicy Couture and current Vogue Spain cover girl posed before the lens of Terry Tsiolis wearing a white Fendi dress with a leather Saint Laurent jacket worn over her shoulder, styled by the magazine’s Sarah Gore Reeves.

Vogue Mexico clearly selected the wrong shot for the cover, however. “I like the second one it’s a beautiful portrait but the rest is so lifeless! And the styling is so boring,” wrote a dissatisfied narcya the second the cover broke.

“I like the second shot (below left) the most. The first (above) could have been great but her expression kinda ruins it IMO,” slated sixtdaily. (more…)

Why Did UK InStyle Choose Such an Unflattering Shot of Chloë Grace Moretz for the June Cover? (Forum Buzz)

Chloë Grace Moretz is one of a handful of actresses that just can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to shooting a decent magazine cover (we’re looking at you Emilia Clarke). First American Marie Claire styled her into oblivion back in February and now British InStyle fails to capture her in the best light. Chloë goes casual on the cover for June 2016, wearing an embellished denim jacket over a simple white tee with her hair untouched as she smiles for photographer Tung Walsh.

Forum members weren’t afraid to call out InStyle on this horror of a cover. “That shot does not do her any justice at all! She’s a gorgeous woman, and this…” questioned a less than impressed MON, ranting the moment the cover came to light.

“Ouch. What a bad shot of her!” complained an appalled honeycombchild. (more…)

Watch: When It Comes to Sunscreen, This Video Will Scare You Straight

Two related studies conducted in 2014 showed that, when it comes to sunscreen use, people are motivated more out of fear of cancer — and losing their looks — than they are by statistics. In light of this finding, we’d like to present Exhibit A: portrait photographer Thomas Leveritt’s 2014 video How the Sun Sees You. Prepare to feel immensely guilty about every instance in which you’ve forgotten to wear sunscreen. Since the day you were born. As Starcadian’s remix of Freedom Fry’s “Summer in the City” mocks you, proclaiming in ethereal vocals, “What you see is what you get.”

The project documents men, women and children of all ages as seen through an ultraviolet lens, which detects the sun’s UV rays as they reflect off of skin. In so doing, the camera reveals freckles, age spots and other blemishes (not necessarily caused by sun exposure) not visible to the naked eye. Participants (especially those who obviously eschewed sunblock) received a humbling preview of possible coming attractions. Kids appeared just the same under the unforgiving light. (more…)
