If Harper’s Bazaar hasn’t made it clear, this year marks its milestone 150th anniversary and to celebrate, the title has been going all-out with Madonna, Rihanna and Paris Jackson cover shoots. Now, Kendall Jenner appears on the newly-unveiled May 2017 cover looking vibrant in red La Perla (for which she’s the face of this season) in a decidedly retro-looking image. Channeling the work of photographer Richard Avedon throughout the cover shoot, Kendall was shot by Camilla Akrans with heavy-handed styling by Tom Van Dorpe.
Once the cover broke, our forum members couldn’t wait to weigh in. “Harper’s Bazaar is obsessed with playing with Kendall Jenner’s hair while wearing red lipstick. This is tragic. Those brows are hideous. The right one seems like it was Photoshopped on. Is she a senator/governor’s wife during the 60s? Why can’t they have a Kendall cover without a gimmick?” questioned MON.
“She’s not strong enough a model to pull something like a straight-on beauty shot. Her face looks smooshed together and that hair is atrocious,” added ash92. (more…)
We’ve been bracing ourselves for a Katy Perry cover of Vogue for months, and following a gorgeous Selena Gomez cover last month, Katy finally turns up on the May 2017 issue. The American songstress returns to Vogue‘s front cover to coincide with this year’s Met Gala Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons exhibit, of which she is co-chair. Shot by photographic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott and styled by Grace Coddington, Katy wears a bold Comme des Garçons creation (obviously), complete with platinum blonde hair and fairly minimal makeup.

Sadly, our forum members were not fans of the cover. “BOLD? More like CHEESY and BORING. I believe this is the first time CDG gets such a major American cover in a longtime. What a waste,” cried out an unforgiving Lola701 the moment the cover struck.
“This is possibly the worst cover from them I have seen in recent years, and they’ve had a good share!! Tragic hair, empty art direction! Even ELLE does better than this!” said Miss Dalloway. (more…)
Chanel is still rolling out its Gabrielle handbag ads and now unveils a whole new campaign for the brand’s Métiers d’Art collection, which was showcased at The Ritz in Paris back in December. There are no signs of the ornate and luxurious surroundings of The Ritz in the campaign, with Karl Lagerfeld opting to use his photographic studio and a plain gray background instead. Models Vittoria Ceretti and Natalie Westling joining forces for the images styled by Lagerfeld-favorite Carine Roitfeld.
Our forum members were quick to sound off on the new campaign. “Literally all the money in the world (of fashion) and Karl shoots them in front of a gray wall. Awesome,” voiced an underwhelmed Street_a_Licious.
Lola701 felt the same way. “Chanel IMO should maybe more being literal with the set. The collection was all about The Ritz, so why not shoot this in The Ritz? It would have been perfect. Maybe just at the Place Vendome just in front of the hotel. But this is the case for everything Chanel. The campaigns are rarely as impactful as the shows,” she stated. (more…)
After a disastrous Solange Knowles cover in April, ELLE followed up with its best cover in ages, starring a sultry Anne Hathaway. Now, ELLE is giving us exactly what we want with a whole host of models for its multi-cover May 2017 issue. Bella Hadid, Maria Borges, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes, Candice Huffine and Hailey Baldwin were each cast for the magazine’s swimsuit issue, photographed by Terry Tsiolis.
Forum members wasted no time selecting their favorite cover. “Wow, a bunch of bad pics,” said an unforgiving Nymphaea the second the covers came to light.
“I’m not sure which one I’d choose! Probably none, they all look bad…” wrote liberty33r1b. (more…)
Gigi Hadid has more than a few Vogue covers in her growing portfolio, most recently captivating us on the launch issue of Vogue Arabia. Now, Gigi makes a return to Dutch Vogue‘s front cover for May 2017, wearing her very own Tommy Hilfiger collection. Shot by Serge Leblon, the current face of Max Mara wears a striped one-piece under a denim bomber jacket in the playful cover image.
Our forum members either loved or loathed the cover. “Great fresh cover, love the Tommy colors, Gigi is working that cover,” commented Nymphaea.
“This is a perfect early summer cover. She looks awesome! This feels very 90s supermodel to me, and I’m here for it,” applauded a more than satisfied happycanadian. (more…)

Forum members couldn’t wait to debate whose cover came out on top. “Couldn’t have picked a more tired and grating tagline if they tried. Emily’s cover is the best one, IMO,” wrote forum member MyNameIs after seeing all the covers together.
“The tagline is cheap TBH. Talk is cheap. I’d rather see an empowering and powerful image rather than your normal cover shot coupled with a tagline on feminism,” added MON. (more…)
