After a total overhaul for September, complete with a modified format, bolder font choices and minimal text on the front cover, Australian Vogue continues to embrace its newfound confidence. Following Bella Hadid and Jordan Barrett‘s appearance, Lorde stars on the new cover for October 2017. Photographed in Sydney, the singer returns to Aussie Vogue after her triumphant July 2015 cover, for a dreamy and delightful shoot by Nicole Bentley.
Our forum members were divided over Vogue Australia’s latest. “It leaves me cold! The layout still looks amateur,” complained forum member MON the moment the cover came to light.
For the September issue of Vogue Paris, we half expected to see a “model turned actress” on the cover after receiving a tidbit in our Cover Rumor Thread, but instead we got Edie Campbell. The rumors are now confirmed in the form of the magazine’s October 2017 edition and it is indeed Cara Delevingne who stars on the French fashion bible’s newest offering. Cara often shuns the world of fashion while in the midst of shooting a movie but occasionally reappears to remind us of her existence. It was worth the wait for this simple, chic cover of Vogue Paris — her first for the French magazine — photographed by David Sims.
After digesting the cover, our forums were divided in their opinions towards Cara’s French Vogue debut. “I think it’s a fabulous cover!” heralded happycanadian.
“The cover shot is fabulous! Simple, chic, and very Parisienne,” admired MON. (more…)
Following up cover appearances for both Interview and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia in September, Kim Kardashian West now stars on the recently unveiled cover of Allure, as you’ve never seen her before. Marking her third appearance for the beauty mag, including covers back in 2010 and 2012, the beauty entrepreneur appropriately fronts the ‘Best of Beauty’ issue for October 2017. Kim poses for an unconventional cover story photographed by Daniel Jackson, capped off with a mega close-up cover image, which makes a rather bold statement.
Or does it? Members of our forum weren’t so sold on the image. “Kim is like the Instagirls of pop culture. Just when you think she’s gone for good, out she comes with a slew of covers. It’s very conceptual for Allure, perhaps too ambitious. Like something Kanye would do if he had his own magazine. This will be a tough sell on the newsstand. I don’t see ‘beauty’ in any sense here,” critiqued Benn98.
“I get the concept, but the execution of it turns Kim into a cross-eyed criminal as caught on CCTV. In fact, I’d be pushed to recall a more badly cropped cover shot in all my decades of buying magazines,” voiced tigerrouge. (more…)
We’re still leafing through Vogue‘s 770+ page September issue and the magazine is already moving on with the unveiling of its October 2017 cover. Four covers featuring Jennifer Lawrence is a tough act to follow but Vogue welcomes back Rooney Mara as its latest cover girl. Sticking with Annie Leibovitz for yet another month, the American actress was photographed on location at the Antony Woodland Garden in Cornwell, England (British Harper’s Bazaarmuch?). Complete with styling from Tonne Goodman, the team serve up a picturesque and tranquil cover story with Rooney wearing Valentino in the cover image (below).

Right from the start, our forum members weren’t feeling it. “This cover must have been last minute decision! This is not something Anna would pick. And what’s up with two consecutive covers with flowering dresses, and the cover star not facing the camera? Tragic. Unforgettable Fall? More like forgettable cover,” slammed MON.
Jennifer Aniston has graced the cover of American Harper’s Bazaar several times before, including some “breathtaking and dreamy” imagery for the publication (and for us, of course). Following an eyesore of a September cover, the magazine welcomes back the familiar face for October 2017, with Jennifer posing for an old-school Bazaar cover story wearing Louis Vuitton on the newsstand cover (below), photographed by Mariano Vivanco.

Our forum members could not believe the final choice of cover image. “Nope. Not a flattering pic, at all – at least the face. She looks terrified. Love Jennifer Aniston and always happy to see her on anything, but this cover isn’t working,” assessed forum member happycanadian the second the cover struck.
“I actually laughed when I saw it. It’s not a good look. They actually went for this cover shot? I cannot believe it! Doesn’t Jen have a photo approval policy? My goodness! What a tragic photo. It doesn’t justify her beauty,” exclaimed a horrified MON. (more…)
Now that Edward Enninful has moved across the pond to head up British Vogue (debut issue dropping in December, FYI), we never know quite what to expect from W Magazine. Despite the staff changes, the magazine continues on with its annual ‘The New Royals‘ issue for October. This year’s series of covers features Tilda Swinton, Winona Ryder, Hailee Steinfeld, Tracee Ellis Ross, Chris Hemsworth, James Corden and a whole host of others celebrities. Each star was photographed by Mario Sorrenti for a solo cover and with so many to choose from, it’s only natural for one or two to stand out from the pack.
Our forum members had no trouble deciding on favorites. “Wow, these covers are surprisingly good! Things will get better now that Edward is gone. Love Winona, Tracee and Saiorse’s covers. These are the best. The Tilda cover looks a bit overplayed, we’ve seen this so many times,” declared Benn98.
“I’m here for Winona. Robert P’s is so odd! It’s a shame James Corden’s has ended up coming off like a bit of a joke,” sighed honeycombchild. (more…)
