Natasha Poly and Liu Wen Are Joined by Mariacarla Boscono in La Perla’s Recycled Spring 2016 Campaign (Forum Buzz)

Ever since Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott started photographing La Perla‘s advertising campaigns back in Spring 2014, our forums have been aware of the fact that the images tend to look exactly the same and blend from season to season. The luxurious lingerie brand does, however, switch up the casting ever so slightly each time around and for Spring 2016, it ushers in Italian beauty Mariacarla Boscono. Natasha Poly and Liu Wen both make a welcome return, but we’re tired of the recycled and overused concept.

“Stunning cast. Natasha’s shot [above] is my fave so far,” raved simon the moment the campaign dropped, setting us off on a high note.

“It’s becoming more of the same. Even the cast bores me to tears,” ranted anlabe32, suddenly changing the dynamic of the thread. (more…)

Did Cara Delevingne Rip Off This Feminist Sweatshirt?

Cara Delevingne’s outspoken demeanor is as famous as her brows. So fans didn’t think much of an Instagram post featuring Delevingne and friend Adwoa Aboah in sweatshirts bearing the slogan “The Future is Female.” But when Delevingne announced she’d be selling the sweatshirts on Represent with proceeds benefitting UN’s Girl Up campaign, controversy ensued.

Otherwild, a clothing line out of California, accused the model of knocking off its T-shirts and encouraged fans to call her out in the comments. Cara defended her design saying Otherwild didn’t create the slogan, a claim that’s technically true. Its design, like Cara’s, is inspired by Alix Dobkin’s shirt in Lisa Cowan’s famous 1975 photograph. However, Otherwild does have a case against Delevingne. As the owner of the LA-based brand told Jezebel, “The slogan’s origination is from Jane Lurie’s and Marizel Rios’ Labyris Books (1972) and Cowan’s image of Alix Dobkin was used with permission. Otherwild’s reissue and redesign of the slogan is protected under copyright law, which mandates that any reproduction of an existing known public work must be altered at least 20% from the original.”

To her credit, Delevingne realized the error of her ways and thanks the Otherwild brand in her caption. Perhaps they’ve inadvertently found a new spokesperson for their “Future is Female” shirts.

NZ Jewellery Company Under Fire for Objectifying Women’s Bodies

New Zealand jewellery company I Love Ugly has been receiving a lot of backlash online because of the way its latest campaign represents women.

The shots show clothed men covering nude female bodies with their hands while showing off the brand’s latest range of rings. The hands are positioned everywhere, from a woman’s bum to her breasts and lady garden, prompting viewers to call the shoot “sexist”, “beyond gross” and “creepy”.

“Jewellery is one of those things you either love or hate on a man,” I Love Ugly’s Facebook post, featuring one of the images, read. “We tried our best to rework something that makes a lot of males a little uneasy and turn it into something the dubious could potentially see themselves wearing.” (more…)

Troye Sivan has had a freakin’ spectacular year, releasing his first first album and bonding with Taylor Swift among many other achievements, but the Perth-born talent has been dreaming about these moments since, well, as long as he can remember, and was even worried that his sexuality may cause hiccups in his path to success.

“It might seem like it’s all happening so quickly, and it is, but this is what I’ve wanted since I was three,” Troye explained to Allison Langdon on 60 Minutes last night, rehashing on everything from his Telathon performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in 2006 to posting YouTube videos at the ripe age of 12. “For me personally I just knew, and have always known, exactly what I wanted to do.”

While he’s dreamt of the success he has now for a long time, Troye admitted that he was worried his sexuality might derail his goals. “I didn’t know how it was going to go down,” Troye explained of his “coming out” YouTube video, explaining that a lot of his followers were girls and he thought his news might affect that. “I could potentially lose a lot if the world wasn’t ready for me to be an openly gay singer,” he continued.  (more…)
