Young British Cast Lands Burberry Prorsum’s Fall 2015 Campaign (Forum Buzz)

We were floored when Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn joined forces for Burberry Prorsum‘s Spring 2015 campaign but now the luxury British brand returns to its roots for Fall 2015. Mario Testino was Burberry’s choice of photographer, returning for yet another season at the lens. He took to the streets of London to capture several new faces wearing the new collection: Amber Anderson, Clara Paget, Tom Odell, Harry Treadaway, Holliday Grainger, Florence Kosky, Jackson Hale, Ranald Macdonald, Oscar Robertson, Oliver Burslem, Ella Richards and Oscar Tuttiett.

“I like the change from out of the studio but this looks a little like Etro Fall 2014,” complained testinofan, about to set the tone of more comments to come.

“Well, that’s Testino for you,” replied an unsurprised niknak.

Sharing the same sentiments was Emmanuelle: “Got reminded of Etro too. So hard.”

“Yeah pretty familiar with Etro because of the clothes that look the same,” elle_gb responded in agreement.

Also disappointed and noticing the campaign seemed fit for another brand was Pradale. “I think it looks so much like Michael Kors. It screams MK to me,” he hailed.

MON wasn’t feeling it either and said, “This looks like a US Vogue editorial. Did he even try?”

“Please stop, this is awful,” protested qual(more…)

Matthew Williamson Partners with Lyst for a Pre-Fall 2015 Capsule Collection

It was announced earlier this year that Matthew Williamson was moving away from wholesaling his collections and instead focusing on selling solely online, so the latest news that the designer is teaming up with Lyst seems like the perfect move. The collaboration between the luxury label and the online marketplace sees Williamson offering an 11-piece capsule edit of his Pre-Fall 2015 designs exclusively on Lyst.

For those unfamiliar with Lyst, it allows customers to purchase from around 11,000 of its partner designers directly from its site. Notable past collaborations include selling a capsule collection of Mary Katrantzou’s Resort 2014 collection exclusively to the U.S.

Williamson’s range is inspired by his favourite travels to Morocco over the years in hand with 70s muses, such as Talitha Getty and Loulou de la Falaise. Expect plenty of intricate embroidery and flowing tassels accentuating a palette of rich, desert hues.

Available starting Monday, prices vary between $270 for a necklace up to $6,500 for a cocktail dress. It’s the perfect collection for those looking to splash out on a few investment pieces to see them through their summer vacations.

Vans, Walmart Take Steps to Remove Offensive Merchandise

Vans Totem Tee

It is not uncommon for retailers to get caught selling items that offend people, but two brands are doing what they can to make their merchandise selection less offensive to customers. Both Vans and Walmart have been taken to task on some of their more questionable wares and both retailers are making steps to correct their blunders.

Vans was taken to task over a T-shirt picturing a First Nations-inspired totem pole…made out of beer cans. One with even a minimal grasp of history knows that such imagery could be construed as perpetuating the stereotype of the drunken Indian. After a Change.org petition by Vancouver’s Chad Girardin called for Vans to remove the shirt, the label agreed to stop selling it and released a statement on its Facebook page.  Of course, Vans stressed that it never meant to be offensive and has since removed the shirt from its website.

Walmart is also clearing its own stock of offensive symbolism, as the retailer has announced plans to stop selling Confederate flag memorabilia. The Charleston shootings are the catalyst for this action, as it seems the folks at Walmart have only just realized that the flag represents a shameful time in American history that should not be celebrated or repeated. “We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer,” a spokesperson said. “We have taken steps to remove all items promoting the Confederate flag from our assortment – whether in our stores or on our website.” Sad that it took the high-profile deaths of nine innocent people for Walmart to realize how problematic the imagery is in the first place.

Elton John’s Bridesmaid is Selling Her Iconic 80s Dress on eBay

If you’ve seen 27 Dresses, you’ll understand that bridesmaid dresses not only take up room in your wardrobe, but they also represent some unwanted emotional baggage too. But if there’s one bridesmaid dress that’s worth holding onto, it’s one from Elton John‘s 1984 Sydney wedding to Renate Blauel.

The original bridesmaid gown, which was worn just once by the unnamed Sydney woman who remains close friends with Elton, is currently being auctioned on eBay. Before you judge the dress, just remember it was totally acceptable in the 80s.

The frilly silk-magenta gown is still in good condition, a size 10-12, and was created by hand for the momentous occasion. Sydney Confidential reports that its original Sydney-based owner has carefully stored the piece in sealed plastic over the last 31 years, and passed it onto Harley Medcalf with instructions to sell the item on eBay with proceeds donated to the McGrath foundation. So, yes, the purchase is tax deductible. (more…)

Lisa Wilkinson Wants a Minister for Women Who Isn’t Tony Abbott

Today Show host and all-round boss when it comes to political issues Lisa Wilkinson has a prominent voice within the Australian media industry, and, much to our delight, it’s usually an opinion which wants to be heard. Especially by fellow women.

Speaking to Daily Life, Wilkinson expressed her concerns over domestic violence against women and gender inequality in our country. “We’ve got a crisis in this country when it comes to domestic violence; our figures, shamefully, are that one woman dies every week at the hands of a partner,” she said. “And we have a gender pay gap that’s the largest it’s been in 20 years. We need to focus on these issues.” (more…)
