Tyra Banks Invests in Millennial Career Site the Muse

Tyra Banks Emmys

Tyra Banks loves the kids – the Millennial kids, that is. The model turned media mogul has just invested in The Muse, a “career finder and guidance destination” for millennials. The company, started by 29-year-old Kathryn Minshew and 28-year old Alexandra Cavoulacos, has gained the attention of many, including Forbes magazine which has included both women in their 30 under 30 lists. The Muse went through a Series A round of funding, which helped them raise $10 million dollars.

Tyra Banks was one of the many investors to throw monetary backing behind the company. Banks hasn’t been shy about broadcasting her investment. She took to Twitter earlier today with words of support for the company, which she is clearly very excited about.

Minshew says Banks expressed interest to her in 2013 for helping youth-focused companies build themselves up. Sounds as if Tyra is making good on these goals.

E. Tautz’s Patrick Grant Takes Home BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund Prize

The winner of the second annual BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund has been announced and this year, E. Tautz takes home the big prize. The label, which was founded in 1867 and given a facelift in 2009 under creative director Patrick Grant, has won £150,000 pounds (around $236,272) to help build the brand, as well as a year-long mentorship.

Grant accepted the prize, mentioning that the label has been up for other awards – awards it didn’t win — so he was quite surprised to finally snag top honors. “It’s surreal, I didn’t expect this at all,” Grant said upon the announcement. “I stood here twice for the BFC/Vogue [Fashion] Fund and once last year, so I know how bad it feels to miss out. But I want to say congratulations to all the other nominees. I am so proud to follow in [last year’s winner] Chris Shannon’s footsteps.”

E. Tautz beat out a bevy of labels including Sibling, Matthew Miller, Astrid Andersen and Christopher Raeburn. The panel deciding the fate of these talented menswear designers included the BFC’s Caroline Rush, British GQ‘s Dylan Jones OBE and Robert Johnson, Vertu’s Justine Rouch and Massimiliano Pogliani, the Financial Times‘ Charlie Porter, Helen Seamons of the Guardian, Alexander McQueen’s Jonathan Akeroyd and Fourmarketing’s Ben Banks.

“Patrick demonstrated unique flair, precise craftsmanship and an inherent sense of commercial awareness, which combined with the financial and mentoring support will elevate the business placing it at the forefront of the global menswear stage,” Dylan Jones OBE said. “It’s no secret that where British menswear leads the international menswear scene follows so it’s with huge gratitude to Vertu that we are proudly able to continue to drive the sector’s long-term economic growth and success.”

This injection of cash should certainly help bring the brand to a new level and we cannot wait to see how the E. Tautz business evolves.

Rihanna’s First Campaign for Christian Dior Is Here! (Forum Buzz)

As announced back in March, Rihanna has joined the likes of Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence by becoming the face and brand ambassador of Christian Dior. Rihanna was spotted shooting the campaign with photographer Steven Klein on location at Versailles and we knew to expect something spectacular. The finished product for the house’s ‘Secret Garden’ campaign has finally dropped and the images capture the Barbadian songstress in the dead of night, projecting the idea of a femme fatale while showcasing Dior’s latest.

As expected, forum members flocked to the thread to voice their excitement. “Such a different approach to previous art direction! I like it, very sultry,” admired kokobombon.

“I love it, the approach and Rihanna is just perfect,” expressed TeeVanity in agreement.

Sharing the same sentiments was Moofins: “I’ve always loved Dior’s Secret Garden collections. This is no different. I love it. Such a different vibe for Dior, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.”

Benn98 was also fond of the campaign. “This is quite stunning, I’m smitten with the fantasy component. Exactly what I thought it would look like. The second shot looks the best to me at this stage. Though through it all I cannot help but feel it’s the exact antithesis of Dior under Raf. The garish excess, hyper-glamour and mystery. Looks more like a Galliano campaign to me,” he noted.

“Looks good but it doesn’t feel like Dior, I don’t think Rihanna is the perfect Dior woman,” posted pivoslyakova, adding a completely different opinion.

Also left confused was gossiping: “Huh? Givenchy maybe, not Dior. This is not in line with their brand. Weird.”

“Doesn’t look bad, but I am terminally sick of Rihanna everywhere. I would have never expected her for Dior. Ugh,” disapproved niknak.

Rebel Wilson to Design Plus-Size Collection for Torrid

Rebel Wilson Torrid

Rebel Wilson is the latest celebrity to dip her toe info fashion designing. The actress has announced plans to launch a plus-size clothing line in collaboration with Torrid, due out in November. The holiday collection is Wilson’s chance to contribute to the scant amount of stylish clothing options for plus-size women.

“I’ve never really felt like there’s a brand out there in the plus size world that is creating cool stuff, that fits well and is good quality yet affordable,” Wilson said in a press release. “It’s really only been in the last few years that I’ve seen companies try. So it was awesome to team with Torrid, who I think are doing such a great job in making plus size fashion relevant and dope.” The collection will consist of about 25 pieces, including a gold duffel bag with the word “Rebel” emblazoned across the side – something, as Wilson noted on Twitter, for the skinny girls to rock.

Rebel has been vocal about promoting a positive body image for young women. At the MTV Movie Awards last month, she discussed the pedestal thin women are put on in our society. “I think sometimes girls look at Victoria’s Secret models and think that they have to model themselves after that, but I really don’t think that’s the best,” she said. “Even though they are called ‘models,’ they’re not the best people to model yourself after.”

Wilson’s collaboration with Torrid will continue for a Spring 2016 collection.

Rihanna Covers Vogue’s Met Gala Special Edition, Obviously (Forum Buzz)

It should come as no surprise that Vogue selected Rihanna to front its Met Gala 2015 special edition. After all, the outfit was a showstopper that spread across the Internet like wildfire (and fell victim to countless memes). The Guo Pei canary yellow gown and accompanying 12-foot cape was certainly a head-turner and people are still talking about the creation a week later. The songstress is accustomed to going all-out for these events and was even chosen by Vogue for the 2014 edition of the special issue, alongside Beyoncé.

Forum members descended on the thread to kick off a healthy debate. “Not surprising, Rihanna stole the night,” shared HodanChloe the moment the cover surfaced.

“Where can I get this? Rihanna shut down the Met. Kim [Kardashian] and Beyoncé looked like dusty old hags next to her. She certainly deserves this,” added gazebo.

Feeling the same way was RanThe: “I’m not surprised at all that Rihanna is on the cover. She was hands down the best dressed and she was the only A-list celebrity to wear Chinese couture from an actual Chinese designer! Can’t wait to buy my copy.”

TeeVanity was also full of approval echoing, “Made sense they gave her this cover, stunning capture.”

“No surprise at all here. Rihanna was the best look that night!” commented VogueDisciple93 in agreement.

Add your own two cents to Vogue‘s special issue inside our thread here. Will you be picking up a copy?
