Doutzen Kroes Celebrates Her 30th Birthday with 3 Collectible Vogue Covers (Forum Buzz)

Who says September issues are the most desirable of the year? Vogue Netherlands has gone all-out to impress with its March issue. To commemorate Doutzen Kroes’ 30th birthday, the magazine dedicated the big spring fashion issue to the Dutch model, handing her a set of three fabulous celebratory covers (now if that ain’t a birthday present, we don’t know what is). Photographed by Paul Bellaart, Jan Welters and Nico Bustos, we are treated to three different sides of the radiant beauty who, on the cover below, was shot alongside her two small children. Aww!

It didn’t take our forum members long to voice which cover out of the three is their favorite. Check them out for yourself here.

“I think it looks like a cheaper version of something Vogue Paris would do and I don´t like kids on fashion covers at all and at least show the baby’s face. Nico’s cover is the worst imo. I like Welters’ cover the best though it doesn’t blow my mind. I´m looking forward to the editorial,” shared kokobombon, who didn’t show much enthusiasm toward any of the covers.

“Bellaart’s cover had the most potential amongst the three. Look how ethereal Doutzen looks in that shot. Even the hair amazes me and that stare. What bothers me the most in this cover is that the second child (lower right) seems Photoshopped to fit the cover. Unless that’s a tall child, there’s no way in hell that a child that age, while seemingly crouching, is at the same height as Doutzen’s waist,” MON criticized.

Forum members continued to announce their favorite. “I love the Chanel one the best, it’s the most ‘fashiony,’ it gives me Sixties realness,” appreciated gazebo.

TeeVanity agreed: “The Paul Bellaart and Jan Welters covers are beautiful, Doutzen is everything.”

“What a stunning trio of covers! My favorite is the Jan Welters one; kind of reminds me of that Castaway story Doutzen did for U.K. Vogue a while back,” added Nepenthes.

Don’t forget to check out the three covers and get in on the action here.

Gigi Hadid and Binx Walton Are Teen Vogue’s March Cover Girls! (Forum Buzz)

Models are few and far between on magazine covers these days, but Teen Vogue gives us two of the most in-demand faces of the moment for March, and we aren’t complaining. The magazine tapped Gigi Hadid and Binx Walton to grace the “Major Spring Fashion” issue, enlisting Daniel Jackson to capture the beauties. Gigi and Binx are each handed individual covers and pose together on a third, complementing each other’s allure.

With models’ names in the thread title, it didn’t take our forum members long to start discussing. “Nice to see models in Teen Vogue,” poison84 appreciated.

“Can’t remember the last time a model was covering Teen Vogue? Can you? Maybe Karlie? Always happy to see models on covers,” gazebo replied in agreement.

Also full of gratitude at seeing models on the cover was kokobombon: “I like that they used models on their March issue.”

“These covers are adorable, I am sure collectors will pick up all 3 as they should,” suggested TeeVanity.

Benn98 was also full of praise. “Binx looks amazing on both covers. I think this is a great way to build up teen fan base (and garner more followers). I’m sure the Teen Vogue reader would already be familiar with Gigi, so she makes sense here,” he noted.

Check out all three covers and be sure to share your opinion with us here.

Target’s Lilly Pulitzer Collaboration to Include Cosmetics

A few weeks after announcing that Lilly Pulitzer would be its next design collaboration, which will include a plus-sized range and home furnishings, Target has announced that color cosmetics will also be a part of the collection. This marks the first time any of the retailer’s designer collaborations have included a beauty component.

Jessica Carlson, a spokeswoman for Target, told WWD, “With this offering, we are extending our style collaboration in a new way. And doing color cosmetics with a partner known for its bright prints made perfect sense.”

The cosmetics in the collection will include nine shades of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lipstick at a price of $7.99 each and nine shades of Essie nail polish, which will each retail for $8.49. The assortment will hit Target’s 1,801 locations and Target.com on April 19.

Kerry Washington Speaks Out on InStyle’s Skin Lightening Controversy

Kerry Washington’s InStyle cover for March has been at the center of Internet controversy since readers accused the publication of lightening the actress’ skin. Kerry appears on the cover, arms akimbo, smiling in a reptile print dress. The actress is heavily lit, in an almost ethereal manner. But fans of Kerry were not feeling InStyle‘s creative direction on the shoot one bit.

Commenters took to the magazine’s Instagram to express their discontent with a few pointing out that this lightening issue is doubly offensive as the issue is being released during Black History Month. As one concerned commenter wrote, “I know her makeup artist does a wonderful job at matching her skin tone… So this is definitely lighting and post production work. Why are they still doing this? In essence…in this industry it’s cool to be tan (same photographer shot a Vogue cover and the white model is super tan but Kerry is white washed?). It’s cool to appropriate blackness but heavens when you actually have a black person on set…let’s over light her to make her appear lighter! Perhaps your post production department or who ever controlled the lighting that day needs diversity training…”

InStyle heard the cries of the slighted masses and responded to the issue on its website: “While we did not digitally lighten Kerry’s skin tone, our cover lighting has likely contributed to this concern. We understand that this has resulted in disappointment and hurt. We are listening, and the feedback has been valuable. We are committed to ensuring that this experience has a positive influence on the ways in which we present all women going forward.”

Kerry seemed pleased enough with the cover herself (she posted it to Instagram), but sent a supportive tweet InStyle‘s way in response to the apology, calling it a “beautiful statement” and mentioning that skin lightening — intentional or not — is an issue that needs to be discussed.

What do you think? Does Kerry look anything like herself on the cover? Or is the controversy much ado about nothing?

New mom Eva Mendes isn’t stopping her grind. She has her hands full at home with her new daughter, but she also has another baby of sorts to tend to. The actress has teamed with Circa cosmetics to create a new affordable cosmetics range, which is due out at the end of the month.

Eva serves as creative director for the brand, which will be a mass-market professional makeup range. So far, the line includes foundation, BB cream, eyeshadow, mascara, lipstick, lip and cheek stain and more. There are plans to grow the line to include makeup tools next year. One of Eva’s objectives for the range was to make sure it included shades that worked for a wide range of women, citing her Cuban heritage as the reason why she’s so sensitive to the matter.

Gisele Bündchen Lands Her Second Vogue Cover This Month (Forum Buzz)

Is February about to be the best month ever for Gisele Bündchen? We started the week off seeing Gisele on U.K. Vogue‘s March cover, and now Vogue China has released its latest installment featuring the Brazilian bombshell, also lensed by Mario Testino. The supermodel sports her trademark sun-kissed glow, wearing a colorful creation from Chanel’s Spring 2015 collection (Mrs. Brady is the face of both Chanel’s RTW mainline and No. 5 fragrance campaign this season).

But have our forum members had just about enough? “What did they do to her face?” asked iclawhands within moments of the cover surfacing.

“I don’t like it. Her face looks weird and the styling is too much,” added A.D.C., suggesting some airbrushing had taken place.

“I love Gisele but this styling is not working for me at all. The Photoshop on her eyes is terrible. How come Testino’s team did a great job at U.K. Vogue and then this?” kokobombon slammed.

Also not a fan was anlabe32: “Sick of her. She’s becoming as boring as Chanel itself.”

“The angle on her face is a bit unflattering, yet she still manages to draw you in. I bet this will look great in print, and I love the colors!” noted Miss Dalloway, shifting the mood of the thread.

“She is such an unstoppable force it’s ridiculous!” credited an impressed marsnoop2.

Forum member la veronika seemed pleased to see Gisele gain another cover. “Happy for another Vogue cover, regardless! Her Vogue cover total is more than impressive and what’s more impressive is that it keeps growing,” she admired.

Await the content of the issue and add your own two cents here.
