FTL Moda Casts Models with Disabilities for Their Fall 2015 Show

While much of the fashion industry struggles with diversity on its runways, FTL Moda completely embraced it. The label showed its Fall 2015 collection this weekend, tapping the talents of a crop of disabled models to take a turn in their wares. Wheelchair-bound beauties, amputees, people on crutches and the able-bodied alike stormed the catwalk.

The show was done in collaboration with Italy’s Fondazione vertical, an organization that researches spinal chord injuries. All the models looked downright fierce in their looks. It’s easy to forget that there are other levels of diversity, especially in an industry that is so plagued in general by a lack of racial diversity. But it is not just people of color who are underrepresented on the runways. Jack Eyers, one of the models in the show became the first male amputee to walk the runway. There are millions of people in the world who love fashion and are disabled – shouldn’t they be represented too?

“It is a very significant moment in my fashion career,” show producer Ilaria Niccolini said. “This opportunity to finally open the most recognized runways in the world to these beautiful talents, ready to show that disability is very often just a mental state by performing on the runway next  to some of the best models on the scene.”

AnOther Magazine Dedicates Spring 2015 Issue to Alexander McQueen (Forum Buzz)

Brace yourself for even more choice at the newsstand as yet another publication opts for multi-covers. AnOther Magazine is the latest mag to drop on our forums, delivering three spectacular covers for us to discuss. The London-based fashion and culture magazine dedicated its entire Spring 2015 issue to Alexander McQueen, whose legacy takes center stage making us very happy bunnies. Rihanna, Léa Seydoux and Stella Lucia (whose cover we absolutely adore) are AnOther Magazine‘s newest cover stars and have sent our forum members into a frenzy.

We’ve made it clear which cover we’ll be hunting down at the newsstand. “I NEED that Stella Lucia cover and finally someone making an actual effort to celebrate McQueen’s legacy! So looking forward to this issue, it better not disappoint,” raved mistress_f.

“WOW! I’ve never seen Rihanna so impressive like this before. Stella’s cover is my most favorite. It looks very exotic and obsessive,” Koibito added.

Nepenthes was also a fan: “Stella’s cover is easily one of the best fashion images I’ve ever seen.”

Sharing the same sentiments was SugarMe: “Oh wow, this might be the first issue of AnOther I’ll purchase since 2011. Can’t wait to see the contents. I do wish they would have stuck only to Stella’s cover, it would have been so much more impactful. I never liked the redesigned logo, to be honest. This isn’t as good as the first, in my opinion, but it’s better than the last one.”

Stella’s cover is sure to sell out fast. “Another McQueen tribute. I am not complaining. Stella’s cover is amazing. Bless Nick Knight,” coutugh shared.

Miss Dalloway wasn’t impressed at the sight of Rihanna, however. “Oh you got to be kidding me with Rihanna at this point! For crying out loud, give us a damn break! She is everywhere, yet so many other great choices, I digress! Léa’s cover is nice,” she noted.

Await the contents of the issue and check out all three covers for yourself inside our thread here. Let us know which is your favorite!

Natalia Vodianova and Clement Chabernaud Are the New Faces of Theory (Forum Buzz)

By now we’ve seen a vast majority of the Spring 2015 campaigns, but a select few continue to come out of the woodwork and more often than not, it isn’t the blue chip campaigns that impress us most. Theory’s new mainline adverts found their way onto our forums and members are currently deliberating over the images released by WWD earlier this week. Opting to redesign the masthead this season, Natalia Vodianova and Clement Chabernaud are the faces of the contemporary New York based brand’s spring ads, lensed by David Sims in London.

Our forum members took a break from the NYFW shows and started to discuss the fashion spots inside the thread. “That logo..my eyes..” exclaimed gossiping, who was about to set the tone of more comments to come.

“That’s their logo? Horror,” replied GIVENCHYlover in agreement.

They weren’t the only ones who disliked the rejigged emblem as VogueDisciple93 shared: “The new logo is awful!” Oh, dear.

Forum member jj36 failed to show enthusiasm, either. “You could replace Theory with Stella McCartney and it would look like the Spring 2013 campaign with Natalia.”

Benn98 agreed: “Reminds me of Marc by Marc Jacobs. I hate these obtrusive logos. And yes, it looks very much like Natalia’s shots for Stella McCartney.”

“I wish they’d been photographed together! I’ve never seen a pic of these two together,” CrisGalaxy testified.

“Out of all the big photographers out there,  David Sims is the one that needs to take the longest break. His work is soooo beyond drab & predictable,” disapproved valliaddict.

Better luck next time, we guess. See inside the thread for more campaign images and join the discussion here.

Cindy Crawford Still Looks Bangin’ in This Unretouched Photo

Ever wonder what Cindy Crawford looks like sans Photoshop? Now you can find out. An unretouched image of the supermodel from a December 2013 issue of Marie Claire Mexico leaked online, showing the model in nary but navy blue lingerie, a fur coat and a fedora.

ITV News anchor Charlene White posted the image, saying it was from an upcoming issue of the magazine’s American version, before Marie Claire swooped in to clear up the origins of the picture. But one thing the mag doesn’t deny: The 48-year-old looks damn great. “It’s real, it’s honest and it’s gorgeous,” the publication said in a statement posted to its website.

The image was met with a lot of positive feedback on White’s Twitter page with several women voicing delighted reactions to the photo. “Made my day… So refreshing to see an un-photoshopped pic!” one commenter said. White elaborated on her feelings toward the image in a piece for The Guardian“It’s easy to underestimate the impact the images we see every day can have on us – and the language associated with that. Some commenters who have tweeted me have talked of Cindy being proud of her ‘flaws’. Flaws? Seriously? How did not having a six-pack suddenly become a flaw? And why are we okay with that?”

Cindy has yet to comment on the situation, but given the overwhelmingly positive reaction, we wager she isn’t too upset about being an inspiration to so many women.

Victoria Beckham on Why She Wears Flats More Often These Days

Image: Getty Images Entertainment

Back in the aughts, we would have been shocked, simply shocked to see Victoria Beckham out and about wearing flats. Oh, how times have changed.

The Independent just profiled the award-winning designer whose style, though it has remained aspirational for many women, has changed since she was known simply as David Beckham’s stylish wife. “I just can’t get my head around the footwear,” the designer famously said in reference to flat shoes, but these days it seems she’s ditching her sky-high heels for more comfortable fare.

“I’m busier now – so I couldn’t totter around in a tight dress and a pair of heels! I think I feel a little more relaxed,” she said, before noting that perhaps her previous uniform of high heels and skin-clinging frocks were a little like a suit of armor for her. “I suppose if I’m being honest, I would have been scared, right at the beginning, to wear lots of layers and to wear a flat shoe. I would have been scared to do that. Now I’m not.”

We’re sure her feet are happier for it.
