Gwen Stefani Does Her Best Fembot Impression for Marie Claire’s Holiday 2017 Cover

According to the tFS forums, this hasn’t exactly been a standout year for US Marie Claire. Despite securing big-name cover stars, Marie Claire‘s covers tend to be over-styled, over-Photoshopped and sometimes downright awkward. Going into 2018, the publication seems to be reevaluating its creative direction. First stop: giving us a double Holiday issue for December/January introducing a new look. Gwen Stefani appears on the newly unveiled cover, photographed by Kai Z Feng, wearing a black David Koma dress for the regular newsstand cover (below).

Despite the magazine’s best efforts, our forum members simply weren’t here for it. “They are pushing this America’s sweetheart thing so hard so she could sell more albums to middle America. She could literally be Dolly Parton’s daughter here,” voiced dodencebt.

“Gwen looks too artificial and pantomime-like here, like her lips could move without the rest of her face. Donatella Versace would approve! The hair, clearly Photoshopped frame, Forever21 dress, perfect for her and [Blake Shelton’s] audience. Not a winning cover, if you ask me,” Benn98 disapproved. (more…)

Emilia Clarke’s Cover of Harper’s Bazaar Might Be Her Best Yet

Actress Emilia Clarke doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to fashion magazine covers. Whether she’s fronting Vogue China, US Glamour or UK Harper’s Bazaar, members of our forums frequently complain that her beauty fails to translate to print. Has US Harper’s Bazaar managed to break the streak? For the magazine’s December 2017/January 2018 issue, the current face of Dolce & Gabbana’s The One‘ fragrance makes a triumphant return to the cover, wearing the Italian fashion label on the flower-filled newsstand cover (below) shot on location at Kew Gardens in London, England by photographer Mariano Vivanco.

Major kudos to Bazaar this month, because our forum members were beyond thrilled. “Her best cover yet, and it was the last magazine I’d have thought to get it right! She looks flawless, I can somewhat stand the floral overload, and I like how the cover lines frame the image for once. What a splendid image to not only end a year filled with power women on their cover, but also a promising start to 2018!” raved Benn98.

“Instead of being in character, it’s nice to see her look like herself – and look well – and as I say that, I’ve realized the only US magazine I consistently buy these days is this one,” noted tigerrouge. (more…)

Rihanna Stars on Three Covers and Guest Edits the Double Holiday Edition of Vogue Paris

Every year, our forums try to guess who will score the guest editor role for Vogue Paris’ December/January edition. The honor last year went to Karl Lagerfeld, to Vanessa Paradis in 2015 and to Ines de la Fressange in 2014. Names like Maria Grazia Chiuri and Bella Hadid were tossed around in our Cover Rumor thread over the weekend, but as it turns out, it’s global sensation Rihanna taking over for Emmanuelle Alt this year. Photographed by Jean-Paul Goude, Inez & Vinoodh and Juergen Teller for the occasion, Rihanna gifts us three unique covers for French Vogue‘s final issue of 2017.

Per usual with a series of covers, our forum members weighed in on their favorite. “Love the JPG cover (above). It feels appropriate, festive and slightly cheesy. Not such a fan of the two others,” voiced forum member Lola701.

“I’m all for the Jean-Paul Goude cover, since it just screams quintessential France and works wonderfully for the issue. Inez & Vinoodh’s (below) comes a close second while the Juergen Teller cover (after the jump) falls completely flat,” said vogue28. (more…)

Yasmin Wijnaldum Turns Up the Heat on Vogue Korea’s Smoldering December Cover

The Korean fashion glossies are pulling out all the stops for December 2017.  First, W Korea produced two killer Lara Stone covers and now Vogue Korea delivers a striking and sexy cover starring Yasmin Wijnaldum. The Dutch beauty continues to gain momentum, impressing shoot after shoot and catwalk after catwalk. Making her fourth Vogue cover appearance, Yasmin turns up the heat wearing nothing but a pair of oversized Saint Laurent leather and shearling gloves, photographed by Steven Pan.

The cover ultimately left our forums divided. “Yasmin’s been fantastic in print lately, and this cover shot is another example of how fantastic a model she can be. I love the whole smoldering vibe the cover possesses, the use of Saint Laurent and how monochromatic the cover is,” admired forum member vogue28.

“Yasmin has been on a roll lately. I also instantly loved this cover. Very sexy. Congrats to her!” echoed Valentine27. (more…)

Mica Arganaraz Fails to Excite on Vogue Russia’s December Cover

Vogue Russia has had a fairly successful string of covers over the past year, managing to secure the likes of Natalia Vodianova, Irina Shayk, Birgit Kos and Marine Vacth. The final cover of 2017 stars Argentinean beauty Mica Arganaraz, the current face of Michael Kors, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. Mica poses on the studio floor wearing sparkly Louis Vuitton while sporting her signature curls.

According to our forum members, Mica’s hairstyle seemed to bring the cover down. “Someone do something with her f*cking hair! She’s a g*ddamn model for Christ sakes. I’m tired of this sh*t,” fumed A.D.C.

“Trust me. Once the hair goes. She goes,” added liv4beauty. (more…)
