Our forums are forever ratting out Vogue Australia for not supporting local talent (the last Aussie to appear on the cover was Gemma Ward back in January), but it appears the magazine has heard our cries. Closing out 2016 is Aussie model Julia Nobis, who returns to the cover for the December issue. In conjunction with Viktor & Rolf’s upcoming exhibition down under, Vogue Australia tapped the designers to collaborate on a cover shoot by illustrating over a clean, graphic image of Julia shot by Daniel Jackson and styled by Christine Centenera.
At first, our forum members were unsure. “I don’t like this at all, it looks too much like her Jil Sander campaign. There’s a reason we hardly ever see Julia on covers in general (not just in Australia). It’s her perpetually vacant expression, which I don’t think appeal to most readers,” stated a underwhelmed Benn98.
“I love the concept and layout but I wish for a different model, she seems to be photographed always the same way IMO. This could have been easily by Willy [Vanderperre] and Jil Sander comes to mind,” kokobombon echoed. (more…)
