Selena Gomez Covers InStyle’s All-Important September Issue Looking Not Quite Herself

Laura Brown’s feet are now firmly under the desk at InStyle HQ and she continues to flourish as editor-in-chief of the monthly glossy. On Brown’s watch, Nicole Kidman, Victoria BeckhamBella Hadid and Karlie Kloss have joined the ranks of InStyle cover girls. For the title’s all-important September 2017 issue, Brown went all-out, securing pop queen Selena Gomez. The “Fetish” singer — who currently boasts a staggering 124 million Instagram followers (and counting..) — is sure to bring the issue some attention. Photographed by Phil Poynter and dressed in Coach (the brand’s Fall 2017 campaign star continues to make good on her multi-million dollar contract), Gomez stuns in the flawless cover image. The key word being “flawless.”

“Oh wow, they really Photoshopped her face beyond recognition,” pointed out a startled fiqary upon seeing the cover for the first time.

“Nothing can make this chick look older than 17. I just can’t get her appeal…” wrote a completely disinterested ThatDudeOverTher.

Echoing his sentiments was vogue28, who stipulated: “I don’t loathe it but Selena Gomez has certainly photographed better before (like on the cover of Vogue by Mert & Marcus). The Photoshop here is a little excessive, looks like they’ve been messing with Selena’s face shape and complexion.”

“They altered her nose completely,” observed a far from impressed liv4beauty.

Nor was MON willing to show InStyle‘s latest some love. “Seventeen magazine? This layout is tragic!” he exclaimed in horror.

“I don’t mind it. Laura knows who her reader is/who they’re becoming so I’m sure this will sell well,” reasoned forum member YourMonster.

Alicia Vikander Stars on ELLE’s Depressing September Cover

Magazine enthusiasts yearn for this time of year, when all the huge September issues start to roll out. ELLE is the latest publication to unveil its big fall issue, and for what’s considered to be the industry’s most anticipated and celebrated installment, it appears to fall short of expectations. Moving on from a beautiful August cover featuring Emilia Clarke, actress Alicia Vikander becomes an ELLE cover girl once again, wearing Louis Vuitton (obvi), shot by David Bellemere.

The cover was declared a total disappointment by our forum members. “She looks like something you would see sleeping on the sidewalk outside of a night club. She looks tired, the dress looks tired, and this cover looks tired. Last month with Emilia was a knockout, this is a hot mess. Next!” exclaimed GivenchyHomme.

“Crikey!! Her worst cover ever (even surpassing Porter), exceedingly depressing. Looks more like a snapshot of an abused woman. No wonder certain celebs demand photo approval,” noted Benn98. (more…)

Kate Moss, Edie Campbell and More Celebrate Alexandra Shulman’s Last British Vogue Cover for the September Issue

If you hadn’t heard already, Alexandra Shulman is out at British Vogue and her final issue is here. Going out with a bang and closing the book after 25 years at the magazine, Shulman called on models past and present as she bows out with the all-important September issue. Kate Moss, Stella Tennant, Edie Campbell, Jean Campbell and Nora Attal pose together wearing Alexander McQueen, shot by long-time Vogue contributor Mario Testino.

Our forum members, unfortunately, simply weren’t in the mood to celebrate. “Forgettable cover for her last issue,” proclaimed Style Savvy the moment we got a sneak peek.

“What a bore! It really is such a shame. You would think Alexandra Shulman would go out with a bang?” quipped an underwhelmed fashionlover2001. (more…)

Not Even Kate Moss or Naomie Harris Can Save This Miu Miu Campaign

While Miuccia Prada is currently shaking up Prada’s various advertising campaign concepts, she’s also taking Miu Miu in a whole new direction, this time transporting us to Mississippi. British photographer Alasdair McLellan and stylist Katie Grand reunite for the Fall 2017 campaign, along with a diverse star-studded cast including Naomie Harris, Kate Moss, Jean Campbell, Jasmine Daniels, Eliza Cummings, sisters Adwoa and Kewesha Aboah, and more.

Our forum members weren’t feeling the new campaign, however. “The concept is becoming really old and tired now. Also, Miu Miu is not a British brand even though Alasdair and Katie [Grand] clearly would like it to be,” pointed out anlabe32.

“This campaign is a flop! Every single campaign since Katie and Alasdair started has been spectacular. Was the team asleep? Did they let the models play stylist and photographer? The sets look very generic and poorly lit. The styling is bad,” slammed GivenchyHomme. (more…)

Did Blake Lively Really Need All That Photoshop on Glamour’s September Cover?

Ever since Blake Lively appeared on our TV screens way back in 2007, starring in the hit show Gossip Girl, we’ve become accustomed to the actress covering just about every major fashion magazine while rarely taking a bad photograph. She’s landed issues of Vogue, Allure, Marie Claire and now, after a little over a year’s hiatus at the newsstand, Blake is back on the circuit, gracing the cover of US Glamour‘s September issue. Photographed by Nathaniel Goldberg, the blonde beauty wears Saint Laurent, making for a stark contrast between last month’s edgy and unconventional Cara Delevingne cover shoot.

Our forums complained that Glamour went a little too hard on the Photoshop this month, though. “She looks airbrushed to death in order to look like a young Leonardo DiCaprio in drag. What’s happening here?” quizzed a startled mistress_f upon checking out the cover.

“The Photoshop is crazy! So are the fonts,” wrote Urban Stylin. (more…)

Lara Stone and Vogue Italia Tone Down the Glamour for August

Vogue Italia brought some serious glamour to the cover last month, featuring a flawless Grace Elizabeth shot by Steven Meisel. The Italian fashion bible now dials back the pizazz for August 2017, unveiling a dramatically toned-down Lara Stone cover. Returning exactly one year after her last solo Italian Vogue outing, the Dutch bombshell was photographed by Harley Weir for the occasion, serving a spring-inspired close-up wearing Calvin Klein.

Unfortunately, the cover wasn’t enough to lure a vast majority of our forum members to the newsstand. “That looks unflattering. Ouch. I love Lara and I like Harley Weir. What’s up with Vogue Italia? And that hideous art direction! One word would’ve sufficed!” stated a far from impressed MON.

“I feel like this has so much potential. I’m hoping by filling other photographers, Meisel will be back for the September issue. I kind of like the styling but this needs to be zoomed out. It just doesn’t really make sense and not very summery,” wrote TaylorBinque. (more…)
