It was only a matter of time, right? Renegade Collective magazine has broken the mould in print media by using a celebrity-free Instagram snap as the magazine’s front cover for Issue 23. “To my knowledge, we are Australia’s first major glossy magazine that has ever put an Instagram image on the cover,” the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Lisa Messenger, said.
The decision has been “a long time coming”, with Lisa explaining that she needed to prioritise her readers and the entrepreneurial magazine’s ethos above what sells well. “I have a love-hate relationship with placing celebrities on the cover,” she said.
“We know they do sell magazines but deep in my heart, I also know The Collective is about all people and that most of the people we interview are very much cover worthy because of who they are and what they are doing; they just don’t always have the public profile to match it,” she said in a press release. Here’s a bit of good news for those mourning the loss of Didier Cohen from our TV screens each week, following the finale of the latest cycle of Australia’s Next Top Model. The bronzed babe is already famous for his smouldering good looks and weekly support to wannabe models on television, and now the male model is getting serious about his job as a musician.
Looking smokin’ as usual, the 30-year-old personality beamed with confidence at the premiere of Paper Towns in Sydney on July 5, where he opened up about the next project on his agenda. He excitedly told Daily Mail Australia that he’s finally been signed to a major music label. “I’ve been in the studio for two years,” Didier said. “I just signed with a record deal, a major deal which’ll be announced this week.” (more…)

The latest public figure to call out Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on his lack of progression toward marriage equality is everyone’s eyebrow-envy Cara Delevingne. The fashion model and actress, who has been “pretty open” about her own sexuality, is pushing Abbott to follow suit with the rest of the Western world on the issue. After a historic referendum in Ireland, and most recently the USA legalising marriage equality across the nation, there has been a surge in levels of public support, acceptance and tolerance in Australia.
The model-turned-actress was in Sydney to walk the red carpet at the premiere of her new film Paper Towns, bringing her undeniable star-power to the event in local label Dion Lee. But the 22-year-old beauty, who is dating Annie Clarke aka St. Vincent, had a warning for our PM while doing her thang. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, the openly bisexual star called out the PM for not budging on the issue, saying, “Tony Abbott, you better listen to the rest of the world and carry on. Go with it.” (more…)
Australian pop sensation Cody Simpson, known to much of the pop culture world as supermodel Gigi Hadid’s ex, has been crowned the first person in the world to ever have a Twitter emoji created for them.
The 18-year-old pop star received the “Cody-themed emoji” as part of a partnership with Twitter Australia and ANZ Australia, who are bringing Cody back to his home turf for two exclusive shows on the Gold Coast and in Sydney this August.
The gigs are scheduled to promote the release of his new album, “Free”, on July 11, with the Cody emoji, a blonde cartoon in a brown wide-brim hat, appearing automatically when users type in the hashtag #GetFree on Twitter. Cody-themed emojis will continue to be released over the next four weeks, including a “Free” album artwork and other “fun images”. Joy. (more…)
By now we know that once a celebrity, especially someone from the Kardashian-Jenner clan, wears a particular style, it’s destined to fly off the shelves, within days, hours, and, sometimes, even minutes.

Even though the finale of Australia’s Next Top Model, which aired last night, was filmed late last year, winner Brittany Beattie only found out the results yesterday.
“We did two different endings and I didn’t know,” Brittany explains to theFashionSpot. Although runner-up Lucy Markovic‘s tears seemed very, very real when Brittany was announced as the winner in the chosen ending, Brittany believes it’s because “It was so stressful, the whole thing.”
Brittany celebrated her success in true self-proclaimed “bogan” fashion, at the local pub with her loved ones. “My family and friends all met up at the local pub and watched it there, so we had some drinks afterwards, it was good,” she says, although she admits she has a “hangover bad” this morning.
