Me & T Studio Beauty Bar Opens in Toronto

Me & T Salon

Me & T Salon

Getting pampered and primped comes at a price, but the alternative (dingy nail bars with dodgy equipment) can make you feel like you’re putting your health on the line. But with the opening of Me & T Studio in midtown Toronto, affordable and healthy beauty services are now a gorgeous reality.

Opened by Shawna Rao, a registered critical care nurse with 15 years of experience practicing in Canada and the U.S., Me & T Studio is the kind of clean and stylish salon you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine. The gray, pink and black decor is modernist and sleek, while the attention paid to hygiene and cleanliness is unmistakable. There are no spray jet tubs or jars of used nail files here; only ceramic soaking tubs, and you’re free to take your nail buffer and file home with you after the treatment.

Whether you’re looking for a standard polish job, custom colour blending or nail art (seriously, these technicians can actually paint a portrait on your nails), each manicure and pedicure comes with a complimentary paraffin wax treatment. Me & T is also renowned for its lash extension services that use the NovaLash and Xtreme Lashes brands as well as custom spray tanning that’s done discreetly by hand in a private room and customized to your needs.

The cherry on top: The extensive complimentary candy selection at reception that only serves to sweeten your beauty deal.

Me & T Studio is located at 1568 Yonge St., Toronto.

It’s not every day that you receive an invite from Sir Philip Green asking you to view a collection during London Fashion Week. So, when a shiny iridescent pink invite landed in our post box asking us to view the new Design Collective for Evans, how could we resist?

It’s the first time that the plus-size retailer has showcased during LFW and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The show featured full outfits from the main collections of Clements Ribeiro, Giles Deacon, Hema Kaul, Jamie Wei Huang, Lulu Liu and Vita Gottlieb that have all been reworked to fit a fuller figure. If that wasn’t exciting enough, we also got the opportunity to see the designs by Yvonne Shu Yao, the winner of the third Cut for Evans contest as well as several pieces exclusively created by Evans’ own in-house design team. Evans’ own designs were inspired by light and reflection with the aim of being able to easily layer up or down. (more…)

Is John Galliano in Talks with Margiela? Renzo Rosso Says No

Could John Galliano soon have a new job? According to WWD, folks have been buzzing about a deal between the designer and President of OTB, Renzo Rosso. Rosso has been very vocal in his support of Galliano, saying, “Who wouldn’t like to work with him? If he ever got back his name, I would be the first to produce his collections.” OTB is the parent company of such brands as Diesel, Maison Martin Margiela, Marni and Viktor&Rolf.

Of course, people took that to mean Rosso was maybe in talks with the designer, perhaps to discuss a role at Maison Martin Margiela. Today, at the Just Cavalli show, Rosso denied any such dealings, but as we know, denial isn’t always the definitive last word in the world of fashion, especially when it comes to John Galliano. Remember when his publicist denied rumors that the designer would appear on Charlie Rose

Though only time will tell whether or not it will actually happen, Galliano for Margiela does sound pretty fabulous.

Flashback: Vogue Paris February 2008 with Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell

Oh, we remember this like it was yesterday. We can even recall the second we noticed the forum thread title loading before our very eyes and almost dropping down with excitement. For this week’s Flashback Series, we take a look back at the February 2008 issue of Vogue Paris. The cover features none other than two of modeling’s most iconic pairings, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. Shot by Mario Testino, the dynamic duo posed together wearing dresses from Louis Vuitton, styled by Carine Roitfeld.

The excitement wasn’t only over the fabulous cover shot — the content was overwhelming! The supermodels posed for a set of images inside the issue, also lensed by Testino, who shot the long-term buddies in black and white. To mark the one year anniversary of Anna Nicole Smith’s death, Emmanuelle Alt and Terry Richardson shot Natasha Poly channeling the lifestyle of  the late Playboy model. We see Poly caring for an elderly man, while being showered with expensive gifts from Chanel, Cartier and Louis Vuitton. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot Lily Donaldson in the Hollywood Hills looking like a real-life doll, while Peter Lindbergh photographed Isabeli Fontana resembling Amy Winehouse. The issue was certainly a nod to our modern culture!

Familiarize yourself with the contents, and don’t be afraid to reignite discussion inside the dormant thread here.

Moschino, What Did You Do to Barbie’s Hair?

Moschino showgoers got a little treat today and no, it wasn’t french fry shaped iPhone covers or anything mildly practical at all. This time, guests received a Moschino-branded Barbie doll, clad in a pretty badass pink zipper moto jacket and matching pencil skirt with an extended zip fly that folded over into a waistband. It’s a good thing Barbie doesn’t have human proportions or any actual genitalia because, my, my, that dip’s a little low.

Showgoers have been Tweeting and Instagramming up a storm over the dolls, and they’re pretty cute, but we couldn’t help but wonder: What’s going on with Barbie’s hair?

Barbie has rocked all manner of hairstyles, good and bad. But Coke can curls all pinned up in the style of Medusa? We’re not sure if it’s doing Barbie justice.

At least her outfit is cute…

Michelle Phan Files a Counterclaim Against Ultra Records

Michelle Phan has found herself in some legal trouble in recent months. She’s getting sued by Ultra Records for allegedly using the music of its dance music artists in her makeup tutorial videos without permission. Phan’s people maintained that the music was not used without consent and now, they are firing back at Ultra with a counterclaim saying so.

Phan claims that she contacted Ultra Records Senior New Media Manager Jason Kilgore in 2009, requesting the green light to use music from one of the company’s artists, Kaskade. According to Phan, Kilgore wrote back that the label would be “more than happy” to grant Phan permission. She says that she struck up a deal with Ultra, allowing her to use music from the label’s artists, as long as she added the proper credits and provided iTunes links to any of the music used. By suing her, she says Ultra isn’t holding up its part of the deal. Ultra agreed to not file any Content ID claims against her.  (more…)
