Jennifer Lawrence’s Cover of Vanity Fair Is Either Weird or Wonderful

We were pretty much done with our copies of Vanity Fair’s annual ‘Hollywood Issue‘ the moment it dropped, due to the atrocious post-production work that included additional limbs and Nicole Kidman morphing into Naomi Watts. Graydon Carter, unfortunately, left on a real low and it seems as though the magazine’s newly installed editor-in-chief, Radhika Jones, is off to a rocky start. Overhauling the magazine (as you do for your first issue), Jones makes the conventional choice of Jennifer Lawrence as VF‘s March 2018 cover subject (a firm Carter favorite), who was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

Unfortunately, our forum members weren’t too impressed. “Beautiful portrait of her face, and stunning light play, but another case of shrunken masthead! Why? It looks weird! I don’t get this sudden demise of art direction in magazines,” fumed Miss Dalloway the second the cover came to light.

“I don’t like this ONE BIT,” added Khabeer. (more…)

Cara Taylor Delivers in Max Mara’s Clean and Crisp Spring 2018 Campaign

Steven Meisel is on a roll this campaign season, having already shot Chloé, Marc Jacobs, Moschino, Versace and Zara. Since he’s everyone’s go-to photographer lately, we aren’t surprised to see him return to shoot Max Mara’s Spring 2018 collection. Out is Grace Elizabeth who was the face of the luxurious Italian fashion label last season, in favor of 16-year-old American beauty Cara Taylor. Styled by fashion powerhouse Carine Roitfeld, Cara fits the mold perfectly in the clean and crisp images, which take us back to the 90s.

Our forum members couldn’t have loved the campaign more. “I would have never taken Cara as a Meisel girl, but this shot is fantastic! Meisel has created a very distinct style for Max Mara. It looks accessible and expensive at the same time. It works!” GivenchyHomme approved at once.

“I don’t know why Meisel and Carine work so well for Max Mara, turning the simple into the solid. This is just beautiful. Much like the Faretta campaign. The models are of course young but the final execution is distinctly aimed at the mature woman. Love it!” said Benn98. (more…)

Christy Turlington and Teddy Quinlivan Stand Out Amongst a Slew of i-D Magazine Spring 2018 Covers

The last time i-D Magazine managed to capture our attention was back in 2016 (and for all the wrong reasons). After a slew of forgettable and uninspiring covers, i-D has just become a must-have this month with an array of terrific covers for Spring 2018. Leave it up to Dutch photographic duo Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin to deliver, capturing the likes of Christy Turlington, Teddy Quinlivan, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Paloma Elsesser, Dara Allen, Adut Akech, Binx Walton and Cardi B, who were each shot in I&V’s classic black and white style.

Our forum members immediately sounded off on their favorite covers. “Thank the Universe for Christy. What a class act. Love how she keeps it real without selling out,” raved EstefaniaAbaddon.

“Oh, Christy! You gorgeous human being,” favored dodencebt. (more…)

What Did Grace Elizabeth Do to Deserve This ‘Repulsive’ Vogue Paris Cover?

We guessed it was only a matter of time before Grace Elizabeth scored the cover of Vogue Paris, given the fact that the American beauty already has covers for Vogue Italia, Vogue Germany and Vogue Spain under her belt. Emmanuelle Alt’s obsession with the 80s continues from Kaia Gerber‘s Vogue Paris cover last month with the new offering for March 2018. Photographed by David Sims and styled by Alt herself, Grace transforms into an old-school supermodel in the vintage-inspired cover photo wearing a black oversized leather Givenchy jacket, matching leather trousers, a dark smoky eye and nude lips.

The cover left a lot to be desired for our less-than-impressed forum members. “Kaia? Oh, it’s Grace! Nice dated cover but nothing extraordinary,” said Nymphaea the moment the cover dropped.

“Doesn’t look very March-ish. Very gloomy but I like Grace,” confessed Scotty. (more…)

Margot Robbie Wears What Looks Like an Ice Skating Outfit on Harper’s Bazaar Australia’s March Cover

We’ve had our fill of Margot Robbie at the newsstand over the past six months. She’s been on American ELLE twice, British ELLE, W Magazine twice, British Vogue, Vogue Australia and now makes an appearance on Harper’s Bazaar Australia for March. The Aussie native is the actress on everyone’s lips lately, so we can’t blame Bazaar for featuring Margot on the cover of its 20th-anniversary issue. Photographed by Max Doyle, the Australian beauty was photographed on location wearing an embellished Gucci bodysuit in the newsstand cover shot (below).

Something about the cover didn’t sit right with our forum members, however. “Why is she wearing her ice skating costume from I, Tonya?” asked A.D.C.

“This must be an exclusive, I’ve not seen this shot before. Great for them. This edition reprints so much that I’ve forgotten their ability to pull someone so high in demand. It looks better than her ELLE cover, which I liked, but the Tonya outfit is a bit much. I’m getting tired of her, personally,” Benn98 chimed in. (more…)

Everything Works on Kendall Jenner’s Vogue Korea Covers for March 2018

Our forum members are notoriously hard on Kendall Jenner, frequently taking aim at her modeling skills. After a lackluster Harper’s Bazaar cover last month, she managed to blow us away in the superb Missoni Spring 2018 ad campaign and now impresses as Vogue Korea’s latest cover girl. Photographed by Hyea W. Kang, Kendall stars in a duo of vibrant covers, including a vivid close-up portrait shot (below) and a more conventional studio shot, giving us a major stare-down (after the jump).

Our forum members couldn’t believe their eyes. “Surprised how much I like both covers!” confessed Miss Dalloway the moment the covers came to light.

“Oh, OK. I love this!” guimon admitted. (more…)
