Halima Aden Is the First Hijab-Wearing Model to Grace Vogue’s Front Cover

Halima Aden is the hijab-wearing model taking the fashion industry by storm. During the Fall 2017 runway shows, Halima walked Max Mara, Alberta Feretti and Yeezy. She graced the cover of CR Fashion Book and shot a global editorial for Harper’s Bazaar. Now, Vogue Arabia, which made an impressive debut back in March, is the latest magazine to embrace Halima, giving her the honor of fronting two covers for June 2017, shot by Greg Kadel.

Our forum members were won over instantly. “I think it’s gorgeous, I’m so happy for her! I’m also really happy that this magazine isn’t afraid to put models of color on the cover back to back. It’s a beautiful thing,” credited TREVOFASHIONISTO at once.

“This is perfection, happy to see Halima on the cover, love it,” raved TeeVanity. (more…)

Gigi Hadid Stars in Vogue Eyewear’s ‘Cheap and Corny’ Fall 2017 Ad Campaign

Are the Hadid sisters set to snatch all major campaigns for the upcoming Fall 2017 season like they did for Spring 2017? It’s sure starting to look that way, with Bella already fronting campaigns for Giuseppe Zanotti and Bulgari. Now, Gigi Hadid is the face of Vogue Eyewear, starring in a newly unveiled advertising campaign. Following in the footsteps of modeling legends Gisele Bündchen and Kate Moss, Gigi appears in the vibrant #ShowYourVogue campaign, shot on location by photographic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.

According to our forum members, however, the campaign turned out to be a total flop. “Huge mess,” said an underwhelmed madzedre straight away.

“The whole campaign is a mess…” echoed a dumbfounded Zposen. (more…)

Doutzen Kroes and Imaan Hammam Pose for Porter’s ‘Cliché African Safari Photo Shoot’

Ever since the premiere issue back in 2014, our forums have been huge supporters of Porter. The magazine has delivered the goods with virtually every issue, quickly becoming one of our favorites. Until now, that is. The publication powered by Net-a-Porter just unveiled its Summer Escape 2017 installment, leaving our forums rather unimpressed. Models Doutzen Kroes and Imaan Hammam pose together for Vincent van de Wijngaard on location in Kenya at the Save the Elephants operation nerve center.

“Travel on a budget? Because this looks cheap,” said forum member phungnam96 the moment the covers were revealed.

“Cheap, depressing/dull and completely unoriginal. Is there only one way to style models when in the African safari?” complained t-rex. (more…)

Nicole Kidman Fronts InStyle’s July Cover

Whether she’s fronting Vogue Australia, bringing the drama on UK Harper’s Bazaar or captivating on the cover of Interview, we’re definitely fans of a good Nicole Kidman cover appearance. The Aussie actress now fronts the cover of InStyle for July 2017, joining Laura Brown’s list of cover conquests as she continues to make her mark at the newsstand. Following a fabulous Karlie Kloss cover, Kidman was photographed by Will Davidson while wearing Maison Margiela.

Most of our forum members were fans of Nicole’s latest cover. “Nicole is looking a little stiff on the cover. I think it has to do a lot with the abilities of her facial muscles and the type of photography and light. Something softer and less artificial would have done wonders in my opinion,” critiqued forum member dodencebt.

“The cover photo is a little stiff, but I love Nicole and am happy to see her after months of bad or so-so cover stars for InStyle. She’s a genuine movie star,” added SallyAlbright. (more…)

Where’s the Glamour? Gigi Hadid, Taylor Hill, Mica Arganaraz and Vittoria Ceretti Pose for Versace’s Fall 2017 Campaign

Bruce Weber’s aesthetic must be working for Donatella Versace, as the new Fall 2017 campaign marks his third season shooting for Versace. Replacing Anna Ewers and Edie Campbell (and a pack of horses) from last season, Versace and Weber secured models Gigi Hadid, Taylor Hill, Mica Arganaraz and Vittoria Ceretti, while moving things indoors this time around.

The campaign, however, received a bashing on our forums. “Seriously, Bruce Weber again? It looks better than last season but I’m not a fan of that cast,” wrote an underwhelmed dodencebt.

“So random, nothing draws the eye,” pointed out Nymphaea. (more…)

Bella Hadid Shows Off Her New Haircut on the Cover of Vogue Italia June 2017

As documented across social media, Bella Hadid (along with Natalie Westling) shot for Vogue Italia’s forthcoming June 2017 edition with photographic duo Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin requesting Bella cut her hair especially for the occasion. Bella showcases her newly shorn bob haircut while posing solo atop an exercise bike while wearing Chanel (as one does).

A vast majority of our forum members were disappointed by the highly anticipated cover. “I’ll wait for July. VI’s new goal: Get different photographers to imitate Meisel’s work? I’ve never seen an I&V photo like that,” voiced Scotty.

“Okay… next!” declared an uninterested MDNA. (more…)
