Miranda Kerr Returns to the Runway for Paris Fashion Week

For a while there, we forgot Miranda Kerr was even a model. She’s been too busy causing punch-ups over in Ibiza and making headlines as James Packer‘s possible squeeze to remind us. The only thing we’ve got to go off is her recent Vogue Japan cover, which was deemed “horrible” by theFashionSpot forums.

But now she’s gone and walked for Sonia Rykiel at Paris Fashion Week, joining the all-star model lineup including Kendall Jenner, Cody Simpson‘s ex Gigi Hadid and Georgia May Jagger. We’re actually surprised everyday models (without famous parents) made the cut for this high-profile show. (more…)

Cate Blanchett Steps Out in Stella McCartney, Christian Dior Couture for 2014 Zurich Film Festival

Cate Blanchett was on the 2014 Zurich Film Festival Circuit over the weekend, turning to high-end designers for two appearances on Saturday, September 27. The 45-year-old maintained her feminine sophistication, as always, in ladylike getups by Stella McCartney and Christian Dior Couture.

For the IWC Photo Exhibition opening, the actress stepped out in a textural blue dress from Stella McCartney’s Resort 2015 collection. There was definitely a vintage vibe with large buttons and side pockets, but the piece stayed fresh and on-trend with a triangular midriff cut-out. She teamed the dress with dark-mahogany pointed-toe pumps, which tapped back into the retro feel.

NRL WAGs Shine in Couture at the 2014 Dally M Awards

NRL WAGs dolled themselves up in support of their main men last night, stepping out for the Dally M Awards at Sydney’s Star City. The annual event had the girls shining on the red carpet in dazzling couture or otherwise, perfectly complementing (ahem, outshining) the standard black-and-white suits of their partners.

Christian Louboutin on Veal Carpaccio, Nail Polish Fights and More!

Think you know the King of Sole inside and out? Au contraire. In a recent interview with T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Christian Louboutin talks about sneaking into the theater, why veal carpaccio inspires him and where the heck those red soles came from. Without further ado!

On why he wanted to be a designer: “When I started to be quite hooked by the music hall, it was exactly the same period where I started to draw shoes. I wanted to design shoes for showgirls.”

On interning: “I remember one of my jobs [as an intern] was to bring food. All the time, they were asking me for veal carpaccio. And one day I said, ‘You all eat so much carpaccio. Why is that?’ They said, ‘You fool. We’re not eating it!’ Basically, they would put carpaccio veal in the bottom of the shoe, inside the shoe. So it was protecting, and it was a type of moisturizer. That’s one thing that I have incorporated in my designs, technically. Well, I’m not putting in veal carpaccio.” 

On his red soles: “In 1992, I had sketched a lot of drawings and all the drawings were full with colors. They were sort of pop colors. When the first shoe, which was a Mary Jane with a high heel, arrived it was exactly my sketch. But something was better in the drawing. The girl who had tried the shoe on…was actually painting her nails. So I grabbed her nail polish, then we had a bit of a fight. So, I took the nail polish and I colored the sole. And then suddenly, almost like a revelation. So, it popped exactly like my drawing.”

Gap, Inc. Will No Longer Sell Fur Products After Change.org Petition Goes Viral

If you’re searching for a cozy fur snood or angora sweater this fall season, The Gap is not the place to look. Just two weeks ago, animal rights supporter Sarah Maddox launched a Change.org petition against Gap, Inc., decrying the retailer for selling products containing real fur for its Piperlime label. Maddox said she was outraged to see the retailer pushing items that were made from fur, which is often harvested from animals in a cruel manner. “These innocent creatures are beaten, electrocuted, or have their heads and necks stepped on,” she wrote in the text of the petition. “Animals killed for the fur industry are often skinned alive!” 

After writing Gap, Inc. asking them to explain why they would peddle such dubious stock, the retailer wrote back assuring Maddox that their brands don’t use fur, although the labels whose wares they were selling “follow their own policies.” Maddox thought it was a little hypocritical for the company to patronize those who use fur when their own policies go against the very notion. Furthermore, Maddox adds that Piperlime’s stock of fur-laden products didn’t even include the origin of the fur they were selling, which is considered false advertising under the Fur Products Labeling Act.  (more…)
