Four Top Models Celebrate Vogue Spain’s 30th Anniversary With a So-Tacky-Its-Brilliant 80s-Inspired Cover for April 2018

It’s been a remarkable 30 years since Vogue Spain first made its debut on the newsstands. To celebrate, the title tapped a handful of the industry’s hottest models of today for the April 2018 issue, including Luna Bijl, Yasmin Wijnaldum, Birgit Kos and Blanca Padilla, along with photographer Emma Summerton. Rather than recreate a historical cover, the foursome evoke the 80s (the decade of the magazine’s launch), decked out in Versace’s coveted Spring 2018 collection, styled by Juan Cebrian.

Despite the magazine’s best efforts, the majority of our forum members weren’t in the mood. “I adore the cast (well, maybe minus Yasmin), hate the clothes and those random colors behind the masthead. They could’ve celebrated such a big anniversary better,” complained Srdjan.

“Nah, even the models can’t save it for me! Why are group cover shots so challenging for Vogue? At least [Anna] Wintour’s Vogue has done some amazing group covers, but this just leaves me cold!” exclaimed Miss Dalloway.

A Makeup-Free Christina Aguilera Looks Her Best Ever on Paper Magazine’s ‘Transformation’ Issue

It’s hard to believe that Christina Aguilera has never graced the cover of Vogue before (despite even having a Versace campaign under her belt) and her last notable presence on a major fashion title was W Magazine back in 2011. Leave it to a cutting-edge publication like Paper (a magazine that has a habit of breaking the internet) to drop a cover featuring the American songstress for Spring 2018, much to the delight of our forum members. The team opted to appropriately strip everything back for ‘The Transformation Issue’ with Christina taking off her layers of makeup and going bare-faced, freckles and all, in the refreshing image shot by Zoey Grossman.

Our forum members went wild over the cover. “She looks amazing!” declared TREVOFASHIONISTO immediately.

“She looks very very young without makeup. I also love this natural look on her,” replied forum member khyrk. (more…)

Alma Jodorowsky’s First Vogue Paris Cover Looks Like an Outtake

Emmanuelle Alt continues to feature her favorites on the cover of Vogue Paris, giving Kaia Gerber the February cover and Grace Elizabeth the one for March. Alt now gives up the April cover to French actress Alma Jodorowsky, who embodies true Parisian spirit in the girl-about-town image. Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin captured Jodorowsky on location in New York City wearing a head-to-toe Chanel look (because what could be more Parisian than that, right?) styled by Alt herself.

The cover left our forums divided. “This is the final cover?” asked a dumbfounded Benn98 the moment the cover dropped. “Well, OK. I mean it looks more like a Bijoux or Miss Vogue outtake to me. Once again the art direction seems not to match the shot at all.”

“Cute supplement. Where’s the main issue?” mocked russianelf, suggesting the cover wasn’t up to scratch. (more…)

Vogue Russia Goes Minimalist for April With Two Sleek Grace Elizabeth Covers

Vogue Russia has been ticking all the right boxes of late. The magazine nailed the attitude of the 80s with its Grace Hartzel cover for February and Luna Bijl‘s electrifying cover for March basically blew us away. Not bad for a magazine that’s undergoing some major staff changes. For April 2018, the title introduces a bold, sleek and sophisticated new cover design featuring forum favorite Grace Elizabeth. Photographed on location in Morocco by Giampaolo Sgura, the American model, who recently fronted Vogue Paris, wears a pair of H&M pants and some Bulgari jewelry in two nearly identical cover images.

Our forum members were quick to show the covers some love. “I absolutely love this! It’s a simple, fresh and clean cover but it screams ‘glamour is back.’ I like it,” approved MON at once.

“Good God, finally! They’re back to glamour and refinement. I like the concept and the shots, just not sure why we have two very similar looking ones. I think these are the best Sgura covers in some time. At least it’s something different for this edition,” Benn98 applauded. (more…)

Lily James Stars on the Idyllic April Cover of British Harper’s Bazaar

If you’ve been following UK Harper’s Bazaar for the past few years, you may have noticed a formula they tend to follow issue after issue, cover after cover. An actress? Check. An underrated photographer? Check. A tranquil British countryside location? Check. For April 2018, Lily James is the latest actress to be slotted into the aesthetic, captured on location in an idyllic village setting, photographed by Richard Phibbs and styled by Miranda Almond. In the newsstand cover image (below), Lily walks through the village wearing a floral Erdem dress while taking a break from riding her bike.

For the most part, our forum members liked what they saw. “Oooh, this is a really cute cover, they nailed ‘British springtime’ and Lily is adorable,” admired forum member SallyAlbright the second the cover came to light.

“This is a thriving magazine at a time when others are closing down, so I can’t really knock the formula. It’s got a signature look and it’s got a dedicated readership. It’s usually beautifully made. I should just give in and enjoy it,” added tigerrouge. (more…)

Alicia Vikander’s Marie Claire Cover Might Actually Be a Winner

Alicia Vikander never seems to catch a break when it comes to getting a half-decent shot on a fashion magazine cover. The likes of UK ELLE, Porter and US Vogue have given it their best shot (and were soundly panned in our forums) and now American Marie Claire makes an attempt for April 2018. The magazine commissioned photographer Thomas Whiteside and stylist Alison Edmond to profile the Tomb Raider star, who can be found posing in the soft and pretty newsstand cover image (below) wearing Louis Vuitton (for which she is the brand ambassador).

Per usual, Alicia’s cover generated a whole host of mixed feedback in our forums. “This girl is so cute yet so overrated. She’s literally everywhere and this is getting boring. Hope we won’t see her til 2019,” wrote forum member biagiolr at once.

“Ouch, she is so boring!” added narcyza. (more…)
