Model-Mania: Five Gorgeous Women Vie for Best Cover Girl on Vogue Germany’s August Issue (Forum Buzz)

Our forums got wind of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lily Aldridge participating in a shoot with Giampaolo Sgura a few days ago and we just knew from the previews that it was for Vogue Germany. Forum members half-expected the outcome to show up on the title’s September or October covers but were pleasantly surprised with the unveiling of the August issue. Rosie and Lily, along with Irina Shayk, Emily Ratajkowski and Stella Maxwell, appear solo on a series of five covers. Styled by Christiane Arp, the girls pose before the same textured background and battle it out for our forum members’ approval.

“Irina looks nice and soft. I am surprised to see her looking soft because she always screams SEX,” added DutchHomme. (more…)

Selena Gomez Is Officially #Queen of Instagram

when your lyrics are on the bottle

A photo posted by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

All hail Selena Gomez, reigning empress of Instagram. Not only does the Revival singer hold claim to the most followers on the social media platform (89.2 million and counting, at time of publication), she’s also responsible for the most-liked photo in history.

Posted two weeks ago, the (who would’ve guessed it?) selfie shows Selena in a red top, her nails painted to match, her newly auburn, side-swept waves framing her smoky-eyed face. In what could be called the greatest sponsored ad on the planet, Gomez sips on a bottle of Coca Cola featuring lyrics from her song Me & the Rhythm. Pat yourself on the back and demand a raise, whoever came up with the “Share a Coke and a Song” campaign. Cite the photo’s 4.1 million-plus likes as evidence of your indispensability. (more…)

Jennifer Aniston has published a powerful essay on Huffington Post that addresses the dehumanising and objectifying effects celebrity journalism has on women.

She begins by confirming that she is not pregnant, but that she is “fed up”:

“We use celebrity ‘news’ to perpetuate this dehumanizing view of females, focused solely on one’s physical appearance, which tabloids turn into a sporting event of speculation. Is she pregnant? Is she eating too much? Has she let herself go? Is her marriage on the rocks because the camera detects some physical ‘imperfection’?”

She continues, explaining that the way the way in which the media values women is warped and debilitating to the female psyche.

Meet Elena, Disney’s (Overdue) Latina Princess

Disney is determined to finally do right by its diverse, impressionable young audience. On July 22, the Disney Channel will introduce its first Latina princess, Elena (of Avalor, as the animated series’ name proclaims). “It’s not a secret that the Hispanic and Latino communities have been waiting and hoping and looking forward to our introduction of a princess that reflected their culture,” Nancy Kanter, who oversees the show, told The New York Times.

When caricaturists and animators get together to illustrate race and ethnicity, eggshells must be walked on, and the company is doing its darndest not to tick anyone off (as they most definitely did with The Princess and the Frog). Of course, you can’t please everyone. The fact that the orphaned Elena’s adventures will be documented via 22-minute episodes rather than full-length animated feature is already causing critics to grumble. However, unlike many of her predecessors, Elena isn’t dangerously petite or tediously boy crazy. “We wanted to make sure that she didn’t have a doll-like appearance, and we really wanted to steer clear of romance. She has male friends, as teenage girls obviously do, but we did not want it tinged with, ‘Ooh, they’re falling in love,’” said Kanter. (more…)

Model Ebonee Davis Pens Raw Letter About Systemic Racism in the Fashion Industry: “The Time for Change Is Now”

“Bring me water for these flowers growing out my mind” New @urbanoutfitters

A photo posted by Ebonee Davis (@eboneedavis) on

You probably recognize Ebonee Davis. She’s posed for many a high-profile client, including Urban Outfitters, Sports Illustrated, Teen Vogue and, most recently, Calvin Klein. Conscious of her “otherness” in an industry dominated by the Kendall Jenners and Gigi Hadids of the world, the natural-haired black model positions herself as a voice for the women of color watching from the sidelines.

Four months ago, Ebonee spoke out about her decision to revert to her natural fro and the encouragingly positive response her new ‘do received. “I’ve booked more stuff with my hair curly and natural. Well, maybe I won’t say ‘more’ but clients have opened the door to work with curly and natural hair, and some of my previous clients have allowed me to make the transition as well without complaint — and with encouragement, actually…” Now, in the wake of the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, the America’s Next Top Model alum is calling on her peers in the advertising, fashion and beauty industries to do more. Edie Campbell Lands Her Third Campaign of the Season as the New Face of John Galliano (Forum Buzz)

Already the face of Burberry and Isabel Marant this season, Edie Campbell has been unveiled as the face of John Galliano for Fall 2016, taking over for Christy Turlington Burns who fronted the campaign last season. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin captured the Brit beauty in the studio wearing a feather-light silk dress while posing under some pink lighting for added effect.

“Beautiful dress and great photo but Edie looks very drained. I know it’s what she is known for but even if JG is not at Galliano, that’s not the image I have of the brand. Maybe it represents what the brand is in 2016: drained!” voiced a less than impressed Lola701 the moment the campaign dropped.

Feeling the same way was Elite13, writing, “She just looks like she has really bad hay fever. Dislike.” (more…)
