Our forums have always been partial to Adele magazine covers. She has stunned on the cover of Vogue a handful of times, served great face on the cover of i-D Magazine and now makes her debut on Vanity Fair. Closing out the year on a high, the songstress looks gorgeous in the cover photo by Tom Munro for the title’s December 2016 offering. In the classically beautiful portrait, Adele sports a voluminous blowout and an envy-inducing signature makeup look.
Unfortunately, the majority of our forum members weren’t feeling it all that much. “Awkward,” described zzzyao76 the second the cover surfaced.
“I don’t like it. The makeup and layout looks sloppy, and the styling is super boring IMO,” said a deflated kokobombon. (more…)
We’ve become so used to Steven Meisel photographing Prada’s advertising campaigns that you could’ve knocked us over with a feather when Willy Vanderperre was unveiled as Miuccia Prada’s latest lensman. Not to mention throwing in an actress as the face of the brand’s new Resort 2017 campaign. Jessica Chastain stars in the newly-unveiled campaign looking gorgeous as she wanders around the city of Milan in a series of cinematic images.
Our forum members couldn’t contain their excitement. “OMG Jessica for Prada!!!! My dream came true!” heralded a delighted zzzyao76 the second the campaign dropped.
“This is so unexpected but I love it. The styling and photography are great but also the sets and Jessica bring something unique,” added kokobombon. (more…)
It’s hard to believe that 2016 is coming to an end (at least in the world of magazines) with the December issues already being unveiled. First came Gigi Hadid‘s ultra-glamorous Vogue Japan cover and now British Vogue unveils its festive offering to close out the year. Giving Lily-Rose Depp the honors, UK Vogue‘s latest marks the girl-of-the-moment’s debut as a Vogue cover subject and she certainly proves her worth in the enchanting shot. Photographed by Bruce Weber, the Chanel ambassador unsurprisingly wears the French label as she reclines on a plush sofa, looking a little partied out from the festivities.
Not all of our forum members were in the mood for partying, however. “I feel I might be the only one but I really like this cover. I like the vibe of it. She looks like a princess. Great styling and colors,” approved Oxymore the second the cover dropped over the weekend.
“It’s quite a festive cover so kudos for that,” said anlabe32. (more…)
Jasmine Tookes wears the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra; Image: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Victoria’s Secret
This Thursday, Victoria’s Secret released photos of model Jasmine Tookes wearing this year’s Bright Night Fantasy Bra. In some ways, the behind-the-scenes shots look a lot like the VS ads we know and…feel ambivalent towards. Yet again, a beautiful straight-sized model perches on a tufted couch in ornate underwear we can’t imagine tolerating for over five minutes, tousling her relaxed hair.
In other ways, the photo — and its significance — takes our breath away. For one, Tookes is the first black model to wear the Fantasy Bra (here, and on the upcoming Victoria’s Secret runway) in nine years. Then, there’s the Eddie Borgo-designed, jewel-encrusted contraption itself, which is worth $3 million and took nearly 700 hours to make. And do our eyes deceive us, or are those unretouched stretch marks on Tookes’ perfectly muscled derrière? (more…)
In 19-year-old Khoudia Diop’s home country of Senegal, between 52 and 67 percent of women use skin lightening products on a regular basis (this from a survey taken last year). Elidje Ekra, a dermatologist working in Abidjan (in the Ivory Coast, where skin-whitening products are banned) told The Guardian, “In our cultures, some people think women with light skin are the most beautiful. This beauty standard…pushes many girls to de-pigment their skin.” These creams not only perpetuate narrow, skewed standards of beauty, they often contain mercury and hydroquinine, chemicals with a slew of side effects, not the least of which is skin cancer.
Diop, whose skin is a beautiful deep shade of ebony rarely seen in the media, doesn’t feel the need to conform to the status quo. Despite the fact that she grew up being bullied about her skin tone, she took the ignorance of her peers in stride. “It wasn’t always easy, but I found things I liked about myself and celebrated them,” Diop told Mic. These days, the self-described @Melaniin.Goddess uses her social media to showcase unconventional, healthy standards of beauty. (more…)
Kendall Jenner continues to show the haters and critics just what she’s capable of with yet another Vogue cover to add to her growing portfolio. (Say what you will, but scoring four Vogue covers last month is quite the accomplishment for any working model.) Kendall’s latest is the cover of Vogue Turkey, photographed by Russell James. Following in the footsteps of Gisele Bündchen and Lara Stone, the current face of Fendi gives us some major 1980s supermodel vibes in the glamorous and stylized cover shot.
Is it possible our forum members actually like a Kendall Jenner cover? “Great photo, love her face here, the styling is not groundbreaking but great. A good cover. Usually, I am not fond of grey background but it works quite well. Bravo, Vogue Turkey!” applauded a more than impressed GivenchyAddict.
“A bit Vogue Paris, but I like it. Considering what Vogue Turkey has been giving us lately, this is a huge win for them. Kendall looks good. I dig the old school supermodel vibe going on here,” added MyNameIs. (more…)
