According to our hard-to-please forum members, Vogue Ukraine has been killing it lately, often surpassing its many sister editions of Vogue in terms of creativity, design and innovation. Recent covers have featured the likes of Anja Rubik, Amber Valletta and Doutzen Kroes, and now the Ukrainian glossy shows rival publications just how to showcase and profile celebrities in a whole new light. For August 2017, photographer Nan Goldin captured It girl/actress Chloe Sevigny swimming in Bulgari jewels for the magazine’s art-themed issue.
Our forum members were thrilled with the outcome. “I swear this is one of the most pleasant cover surprises ever. Chloe looks fantastic on the cover and the layout is very clean and beautiful,” applauded dodencebt.
“Wow after 20+ years as the ‘fashion icon’, she finally gets a Vogue cover! Vogue Ukraine always dares to go with the unexpected. I love this cover, love her expression, and the fact it’s not perfect, way less boring this way,” Miss Dalloway approved. (more…)
It’s hard to believe that Angelina Jolie’s last notable magazine cover was for WSJ way back in 2015. Her lack of newsstand presence in recent years is almost offensive. Thanks to Vanity Fair‘s all-important September issue, we’re treated to a glamorous new cover of the Guerlain ambassador, wearing a bright red lip and crystal-encrusted Saint Laurent dress. Photographed by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, Angelina was shot on location at the Warner Bros. Studio in California and looks every inch the global superstar, oozing grace and sophistication throughout the entire cover story.
Amazingly, our forum members were disappointed by the rare cover appearance. “I love the styling and color scheme but the expression in her eyes is kinda off,” pointed out kokobombon straight away.
“Lighting is odd. Also, can’t recall the last time I was more excited for the article than the actual cover,” stated Lucien112. (more…)
Dutch beauty Birgit Kos is fashion’s new obsession and she’s only been on the scene for two seasons. Currently the face of Chloé and Stella McCartney for fall, she also scored one of Vogue Germany‘s trio of covers earlier this month and now makes the cover of Vogue Russia solo for August 2017. Posing for photographer Olivier Zahm, Birgit wears a black Alexander McQueen dress in the great outdoors, which makes for a wonderful contrast, while giving us major femme fatale vibes with her killer stare and commanding presence.
Surprisingly, the cover generated mixed feedback on our forums. “Yes Birgit get those covers! I love her so much,” exclaimed an elated apple the moment the cover struck.
“Actually really like this, even the dress works here!” commented Miss Dalloway. (more…)
All a major fashion brand has to do these days is commission Steven Meisel to shoot its advertising campaigns and they’re golden. For proof, see Zara’s triumphant campaigns for the past two seasons. Meisel has already made a splash for Loewe, Coach, Moschino and Max Mara, and now returns for Zara’s Fall 2017 campaign. Models Grace Elizabeth, Vittoria Ceretti, Lex Herl, Aira Fereira and Faretta join Meisel in the studio to contribute to the wow factor of the classic and sophisticated images.
Members of our forums wasted no time voicing their opinion. “The campaign is great. Meisel makes everything look so expensive. But the cast, as much as I love every girl here, should have been more diverse for a brand like Zara that has such a wide range of clients. Very happy for all the models who got it anyway, they all look flawless,” noted apple.
“Last season was better but it’s still very nice. I’m beyond tired of Vittoria and Faretta though and I agree that there should have been more diversity. There’s only one very light skinned black model,” anlabe32 added. (more…)
Emilia Clarke is one of those actresses whose beauty fails to come across in print (certainly not as much as it does on our TV screens, anyway). After a slew of less than impressive newsstand appearances, Emilia finally managed to charm our opinionated forum members with her current cover of ELLE. In full Game of Thrones promotion mode, Emilia now also appears on the cover of Vogue China’s August 2017 issue. Photographed by controversial photographer Terry Richardson, Emilia wears a feathered Calvin Klein number at the beach.
Our forum members simply weren’t here for Emilia’s latest. “I can’t tell how much I hate this, and the layout looks so dated like what they did ten years ago,” voiced MDNA the moment the cover struck.
“It doesn’t look like her. That pose looks unflattering and uncomfortable. My goodness that hair! Brush that hair! One can have a windblown cover but still manage to get a classy cover. This just looks like a dusty cheap wig,” critiqued MON. (more…)
Alessandro Michele continues to raise the bar at Gucci while refusing to follow the rest of the fashion pack. His advertising campaigns for the iconic Italian fashion house are often extremely well-received by our hard-to-thrill forum members (despite a few controversies). The newly unveiled Fall 2017 campaign, captured by Glen Luchford, is on another planet — literally. Yes, Michele revisits his sci-fi concept, going all-out for the new mainline campaign — complete with dinosaurs, hovering spaceships, models channeling their inner alien and so much more.
Our forum members were certainly in the mood for something different. “Oh my!! Instant love from me. This looks amazing, don’t even know where to begin. This is exactly what I want from fashion! Glen Luchford is going from strength to strength with Gucci. Can’t wait to see more,” raved Benn98.
“First Gucci campaign I like since Alessandro took over. This is so fun!” approved lightblue. (more…)
