In the ever-revolving game of designer musical chairs and their contracts with fashion houses, Peter Dundas is leaving Roberto Cavalli. In news that shocked the fashion industry earlier today, Dundas’ final collection for the iconic Italian fashion house was Spring 2017, shown only a few weeks ago at Milan Fashion Week. The Norwegian-born designer joined the brand in March 2015 and his first collection for Spring 2016 received appalling reviews on our forums. His next collection for Fall 2016 was a vast improvement, but Dundas took two giant steps backward with his most recent Spring 2017 showing. Nonetheless, the announcement came as a shock.

Purely from a superficial perspective, to me it looks like brands are as complicit as young designers. Where’s the loyalty where brands used to back their creative heads even through bad patches? Seems like this is a thing of the past now,” voiced Benn98 straight away.
“It was apparent that Peter wasn’t successful at Cavalli, he was much better at Pucci. The fashion industry is becoming more and more fickle, loyalty isn’t much around anymore. CoverGirl is giving gender stereotypes a much-needed makeover. Yesterday, the cosmetics giant named its first-ever male spokesperson: beauty vlogger James Charles. The Instagram and YouTube sensation — at time of publishing, Charles has 507K followers and 76K subscribers, respectively — is the brand’s first-ever CoverBoy, a term coined by pop icon and current face of CoverGirl Katy Perry. On Tuesday morning, Perry welcomed Charles to the CoverGirl fold via Instagram. (See above.)

Our forums tend to loathe it when magazines produce multiple covers for a single issue. Not so with American ELLE, however, which nailed the covers for its ‘Women In Comedy’ edition back in July and killed it for the annual ‘Women In TV’ issue back in January. Now it’s time for ELLE‘s annual ‘Women In Hollywood’ issue featuring Aja Noami King, Amy Adams, Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, Helen Mirren, Kathy Bates, Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong’o, each photographed for a solo cover by Dan Martensen.
Whose cover came out on top? As always, our forum members weren’t afraid to voice their opinions. “I think they all look great, they managed to style them just right,” kokobombon approved instantly, setting the tone for comments to follow.

Last month, Vogue Australia jumped on the Kendall Jenner bandwagon, which did not go over well with our forums. Now, in an attempt to get back in our good graces, forum favorite Victoria Beckham serves as the mag’s November cover star. No stranger to Vogue (and fresh off the cover of British Vogue), Victoria was shot in profile by Boo George for an almost iconic-looking image. The Estée Lauder collaborator looks beautiful with a messy updo hairstyle, a killer smoky eye and a crisp white shirt.
Although the cover ultimately generated a mixture of feedback, our forums were full of admiration at first glance. “Oh wow, that’s gorgeous. Very clean and sleek. Also love the silver masthead,” praised a delighted dodencebt.

Regrettably, it’s a non-Meisel month for Vogue Italia and the publication has compensated by giving us a huge portfolio by photographer Peter Lindbergh for October 2016. In true Italian Vogue fashion, we can choose from three unique multi-covers this month, with Lindbergh delivering a trio of black and white covers to mark the occasion. Shot on location on the bustling streets of New York, a whole host of faces including Isabeli Fontana, Carolyn Murphy and Milla Jovovich storm the sidewalks of the city in the cinematic cover images.
Members of our forums were head over heels. “STUNNING image, perhaps the only non-Meisel issue I’ve loved since other photographers started shooting covers,” sounded off marsnoop2.

Michael Kors sure does have a thing for blondes, with the likes of Sasha Pivovarova and Natasha Poly being cast as faces for the brand lately. Now it’s Anja Rubik’s turn as she lends her beauty to Michael Kors’ recently-unveiled advertising campaign for Resort 2017. Still insisting on showing us how the other half live, Anja is shot sitting very comfortably in the back of a luxurious boat with photographer Mario Testino at hand to capture the idyllic moment.
Our forum members made their opinions toward the campaign clear. “Same old, same old but I like the model choices: Natasha, Sasha now Anja,” approved kokobombon the moment the campaign dropped.
“It looks like we’ll just have to make peace with it, this formula will never change. Apparently it sells in America? Not sure if it’s just me, but the images are getting more tolerable. It’s effective in the way that it makes his clothes look vaguely interesting,” Benn98 chimed in. (more…)
