Maxim doesn’t receive much attention on our forums, despite managing to secure gorgeous cover girls like Ashley Graham, Jasmine Tookes and Alessandra Ambrosio. This month, however, with Hailey Baldwin on the front, our forums fully engaged the moment the June/July 2017 cover appeared. Topping Maxim‘s ‘Hot 100’ list, Hailey stars on the newly-unveiled cover whilst posing on location in Paris for photographer Gilles Bensimon (who is now a regular fixture at Maxim).
Members of our forums were quick to turn their noses up at the cover. “I have zero interest in Hailey. I might be interested more in seeing Margot and Alicia, they are both gorgeous. Also, Gilles should stick to the beach, it’s what he does best. Every time I see an inside shoot, I feel it’s such a waste of him. Outside shoots are where he really shines,” critiqued KateTheGreatest at once.
“Are we sure she’s 20?” asked mathiaskatz, suggesting Hailey looked way older due to the heavy styling, hair and makeup. (more…)
Supermodel on the cover? Check. Steven Meisel? Check. We’ll race you down to the newsstand for a copy of W Magazine‘s double June/July 2017 cover featuring Natalia Vodianova. Meisel captured the Russian model’s beauty perfectly throughout W‘s rich and sophisticated studio cover shoot, complete with styling from Edward Enninful. On the cover (below), Natalia wears a Gucci shirt and hat as she shows all the other working models just how it’s done.
It was love at first sight for our forum members. “Their best cover in ages,” declared forum member anonid the second the cover came to light.
“I let out a gasp on every image I opened. A perfect throwback to mid 2000s, if there ever was one. It’s a cover/editorial for the ages,” applauded dodencebt. (more…)
After a drop-dead gorgeous cover last month starring model Grace Elizabeth, Vogue Spain shied away from models this month by featuring actress Jessica Chastain as its June 2017 cover girl. Photographed by Mario Sorrenti, the cover drew mixed reviews from tFS forum members, many of whom felt the cover shot was unflattering and too dark for June.
“What a random choice of cover star and photographer. Is this sponsored? W Magazine is this you?” questioned a dumbfounded MON the moment the cover struck.
“What? You have Mario and Jessica, and this is it? They could do so much better, as could the new EIC, not impressed with her work so far! And this is June, come on!” Miss Dalloway protested. (more…)
Vogue Ukraine isn’t letting standards slip as it unveils a duo of covers for June 2017. Photographer Chris Colls, who deserves much of the credit for recent successful covers starring the likes of Anja Rubik and Amber Valletta, gives us another strong series of images with Doutzen Kroes for Vogue Ukraine’s latest. Shot on location in Miami, the Dutch beauty participates in a beach photoshoot with hairstylist Oribe Canales even making an appearance in the black and white cover (below).
Members of our forums weren’t exactly jumping for joy over the two covers, however. “I like the second cover (below), it’s perfectly captured for June. The art direction is too overbearing, something simple was needed. But I’m sure the editorial will be solid. That said, I am a bit over Doutzen looking ‘vulnerable’, it’s becoming very contrived,” voiced Benn98.
“I like the cover photos, the horrible yellow font (not talking about the yellow Vogue logo here)… not as much,” added StockholmFW. (more…)
Our forums have been rather hard on Vogue China lately. After a knockout March cover with Gigi Hadid, sister Bella Hadid looked odd and lifeless on the title’s April issue, followed by a Terry Richardson-shot cover for May (a major misstep in our book). Now, fresh from the cover of InStyle, Karlie Kloss adds the cover of Chinese Vogue to her impressive portfolio of work, appearing on the June 2017 cover, captured by photographer Roe Ethridge.
Unlike most other Karlie Kloss cover appearances, our forums weren’t buying this one. “Really just OK and inoffensive, there’s nothing special here. Quite mediocre. Also, it may be time for Karlie to start toning down her cover appearances,” voiced an underwhelmed Benn98.
“I’m sorry it looks like a cheap version of Marie Claire or ELLE China. There´s no edge or sense of high fashion. Karlie is a great model but this cover does nothing for me,” critiqued a disapproving Bertrando3. (more…)
After giving us a trio of covers for two months running, Vogue Germany has decided on just one stunning cover for June 2017. Dutch beauty Saskia de Brauw graces the magazine for her third time, looking ethereal in pink fluffy Prada. Appearing before a stark white background, Saskia works a minimal makeup look complemented by a sleek cropped hairstyle while posing for photographer Daniel Jackson.
The hairstyle, however, proved too much for a few of our forum members. “Don’t like the hair, but do love everything else!” confessed KateTheGreatest the second the cover struck.
“Yeah that hair is tragic!!! But otherwise it’s OK,” added Miss Dalloway. (more…)
