Irina Shayk’s Vogue Spain Cover Is Ruined by Awful Art Direction

Vogue Spain’s newly installed EIC, Eugenia de la Torriente, means business when it comes to cover stars, having recently given us the likes of Grace Elizabeth, Jessica Chastain and forum favorite Imaan Hammam. For August 2017, the Spanish fashion bible has secured the (usually) photogenic Irina Shayk. The current face of Blumarine makes a comeback to Vogue Spain‘s front cover, wearing a look from Raf Simons’ first Calvin Klein collection in the image shot by Mario Testino.

Members of our forums simply weren’t sold on Irina’s latest. “The layout, the mood, the photo just reminds me of Vogue Korea,” stated an unimpressed MON at once.

“It reminds me of Vogue Korea too,” echoed KateTheGreatest in agreement. “She looks awful, I’m not a fan but she looks better in some selfies. The styling is weird too!” she added. (more…)

Three Is Not a Charm for Vogue Germany’s ‘Cheap’ August Covers

What’s going on over at Vogue Germany lately? Last month, the magazine managed to botch a cover image featuring the ever-gorgeous Anna Ewers and now delivers a trio of atrocious covers for August 2017. The German glossy sure does love a multi-cover issue and this month gives Yasmin Wijnaldum, Anna Cleveland and Birgit Kos individual covers. Photographed by Giampaolo Sgura, the girls pose in the studio wearing a mix of Gucci, Miu Miu and Loewe, leaving our forum members shaking their heads in disbelief.

Better luck next month, Vogue Germany. “Too much for my eyes,” exclaimed horrified forum member MDNA.

“I can’t believe that’s Yasmin (above). She looks the worst! Sgura, well done for making Yasmin look cheap because I could NEVER imagine that one day I would find a hideous shot of her like this. Birgit is also too good for that mess (below right),” wrote badgalcrush. (more…)

Jessica Chastain Oozes Old Hollywood Glamour in Prada’s Fall 2017 Campaign

Ever since Prada decided to ditch Steven Meisel as campaign photographer, the concepts for its various advertising campaigns have been hit or miss. Willy Vanderperre has now firmly taken over Meisel’s role and is doing just fine with the lucrative gig. Actress Jessica Chastain also seems to be comfortable with her position as the face of Prada, returning to model the Italian fashion label’s Fall 2017 collection. Photographed in a perfectly lit studio, Jessica oozes Old Hollywood glamour in the stimulating black and white photos.

Prada’s latest, however, appears to have divided our forums. “I love Vanderperre for Prada. Stunning images and Jessica looks gorgeous,” commented anlabe32 upon seeing the campaign for the first time.

“Another amazing set of images. This Prada x Willy x Jessica collab is simply perfect! Loving the Horst vibe here, so elegant,” raved Marc10. (more…)

A Dior-Clad Bella Heathcote Just Gave Vogue Australia Its Best Cover of the Year

Last month’s “hideous” Paris Jackson cover is soon to disappear from newsstands as Vogue Australia unveils its newest issue. To coincide with The House of Christian Dior turning 70 and with a commemorative exhibition being held at the NGV art gallery in Melbourne, Aussie Vogue dedicates the entire August 2017 issue to Dior. Bella Heathcote fronts the collector’s edition wearing a stunning haute couture creation from the legendary French fashion house in a delicate and dreamy cover image photographed by Paolo Roversi.

“Very airy and cooling for August. When Vogue Australia are good, they’re really good,” commented gazebo. (more…)

Olivier Rousteing Takes a Turn Behind the Camera, Shooting Balmain’s Fall 2017 Campaign

Taking a leaf out of Karl Lagerfeld’s and Hedi Slimane’s books, Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing tries his hand at photography for the brand’s Fall 2017 advertising campaign. Ditching experienced photographer Steven Klein, Olivier gets behind the lens to express his vision for Balmain’s latest collection in the dynamic campaign. Who better than fierce beauties Natasha Poly and Lara Stone to help bring Rousteing’s aesthetic to life? Captured around various Paris locations, the blonde duo is joined by a handful of male models for the stark black and white campaign images.

How did Olivier’s photographic debut go over in our forums? “Photographed by Olivier Rousteing? Didn’t think this brand could get any worse,” voiced disapproving forum member anlabe32 the second the campaign dropped.

“Karl doesn’t need to lose any sleep! His photography is as vulgar as his clothes, don’t get it. At least Klein knows his angles and blocking, Olivier’s photography looks like some amateur digital photography you see on random Tumblr pages. What’s the ‘story’ here, if there even was one,” critiqued Benn98. (more…)

Emily Ratajkowski Sports a Blunt Bob (and Cleavage) on the August Cover of Allure

Allure is currently riding a wave of success after receiving much-deserved praise last month from our forums for its groundbreaking Halima Aden cover. Now, Emily Ratajkowski, the current face of Harper’s Bazaar Australia, stars on the cover of the August 2017 issue, shot by photographer Daniel Jackson. In the commanding photo, Emily ditches her long tresses in favor of a blunt bobbed wig, while going even further to switch up her usual bombshell look throughout the featured cover story.

Our forum members wasted no time voicing their opinions. “It’s flawless, in an artificial way. The tan, lips, hair, it’s all too perfect. Yet it’s a welcome reprieve to see a beauty magazine go back to basics by ditching the gimmicks. I also see they’re trying a new art direction. Not to my taste, I’m afraid,” said Benn98.

“Looks really dated. Nice to see her on the cover though. But a smile would’ve done this more justice. The overall mood is just so depressing (albeit the season). The layout (although looking better) looks very very dated, 2004 realness! On the bright side, at least they’re trying to step up,” MON acknowledged. (more…)
