Milla Jovovich and Photographer An Le Work Wonders for Balmain’s Fall 2018 Campaign

It seems Olivier Rousteing has finally heard our desperate pleas for him to put down the camera. After shooting Balmain’s advertising campaigns for two consecutive seasons, he has opted for a professional for Fall 2018. Eschewing past collaborators Steven Klein and Mario Sorrenti, An Le was selected to shoot the latest campaign starring Milla Jovovich, a refreshing change from Rousteing’s usual suspects. The actress and model was photographed at a derelict warehouse, striking some dynamic poses in the series of images for the French fashion house.

Members of our forums were pleasantly surprised. “Gosh, she’s just so ageless! Not the best shot of her, but it holds promise. I like the angle, and the lightness (a rarity for Balmain!), and I’m glad they hired a proper photographer,” Benn98 said.

“Not bad at all,” confessed mikel.

“Well it’s certainly better than what we saw from Balmain the previous seasons,” added sixtdaily.

Liu Wen Is the Star of Steven Meisel’s Model-Heavy Chloé Campaign for Fall 2018

Steven Meisel is on a roll this campaign season (just as he was last season) working with such major fashion brands as ZaraMoschinoMarc Jacobs and Max Mara. Natacha Ramsay-Levi jumps on the bandwagon by hiring Meisel to capture her second Chloé collection for Fall 2018. After his “lazy” Spring 2018 campaign for the French fashion house, Meisel shoots a handful of models — Liu Wen, Kris Grikaite, Aaliyah Hydes, Sophie Koella, Rianne van Rompaey and Grace Hartzel —on location in New York City on the banks of the East River for Chloé’s latest.

Out of the six girls cast, one model stood out most to our forum members. “OMG, I’m smitten with Liu Wen here, and so glad Meisel took a break from Fei Fei Sun! When she tilts her chin into the sunlight, so regal and glamorous. One can tell the focus was supposed to be on Kris, who just look cutesy pretty, and Rianne. But Liu more than held her own next to them,” Benn98 said.

“Liu proving why she’s an icon in this industry! Even with the amazing Rianne and Kris, she just pops. Her presence is strong and undeniable. She got me excited here!” exclaimed simon.

“Liu Wen is perfection. Love that she got this campaign,” said bluebanter.

Gigi Hadid and Halima Aden Promote UNICEF on the Cover of CR Fashion Book for Fall 2018

CR Fashion Book has been teasing us for weeks via Instagram with countless flashbacks from the magazine in anticipation of the release of its upcoming issue, while making us wonder who might turn up on the covers. We half expected to see Kim Kardashian but Carine Roitfeld features trusted favorites Gigi Hadid and Halima Aden in the newly unveiled Issue #13 for Fall 2018. The issue is dedicated to meaningful change and partners with UNICEF USA for both covers to help combat the ongoing global refugee crisis. Both models were photographed by Pieter Hugo and styled by Roitfeld in an oversized Calvin Klein coat over a UNICEF T-shirt.

The covers did not sit well with our forum members, however. “Well, that’s quite a letdown! With the styling and layout change, it looks like some weekly local publication about recycling and environment. Way to go, Carine!” mocked aracic the moment the covers dropped.

“God, what made her change the art direction? Looks like one of those cheap, free digital e-zines which nobody reads,” said Benn98.

“These are terrible covers. ‘Fashion Book’ makes the covers look like very cheap and low quality. The pictures seem unedited/Instagram filtered outtakes shot with terrible lighting. Is it really Carine behind this magazine?” quizzed biagiolr.

Steven Meisel’s Fall 2018 Marc Jacobs Campaign Falls Flat

After a divine Spring 2018 campaign, you can’t blame Marc Jacobs for bringing back photographer Steven Meisel for another season. Sticking with the studio setting but darkening down the mood, the in-demand Meisel is joined by stylist Katie Grand (again) and models Anya Lyagoshina, Rianne van Rompaey, Nika Cole, Hannah Shakespeare, Remington Williams, Veronika Vilim, Sarah Abney, Sara Soric and Songhwa Oh for Fall 2018. Working in pairs, the girls each handle a Doberman while wearing clothes from Jacobs’ 80s-inspired collection in the candid images.

According to our forum members, something was seriously lacking. “The clothes look so unappealing. Meisel is known for making pieces look three times as luxurious so when this is the end result, you know you have a weird collection on your hands,” pointed out dodencebt.

“Not remarkable at all. If your company is in red you should find a way to make it relevant and these ugly haircuts are certainly not enough,” added apple.

“Unfortunately for these girls, the wacky haircuts have stripped them of any sort of impact or identity,” said bluebanter.

Obviously Lupita Nyong’o Looks Gorgeous on the Cover of Porter’s Fall 2018 Issue

Over the years, our forums have become pretty reliant on Lupita Nyong’o to deliver a beautiful cover, whether she’s fronting Vogue, InStyle or British Harper’s Bazaar. Lupita’s last notable magazine cover was for Allure (which our forums obviously loved) and the actress is now following in the footsteps of Anja Rubik, Karlie Kloss and Natalie Portman by becoming a Porter cover girl. For the title’s Fall 2018 edition, Lupita poses in the great outdoors for two covers shot by Mario Sorrenti, wearing a red Gucci number styled by Cathy Kasterine.

Can Lupita continue her winning streak this month? “Beautiful shot! The angle and cropping is perfect, love the red, and she looks much better to me when she’s not smiling. It’s almost embarrassing to compare this cover to US Harper’s Bazaar considering Sorrenti shot both of them. Proof that it’s all due to the styling,” said tFS forum member Benn98 the moment the cover struck.

“I quite like it. The colors are perfect,” Les_Sucettes added.

Cindy Crawford Looks Stiff and Uncomfortable on Tatler’s September Cover

Does the magazine industry secretly have it in for Cindy Crawford? It’s sure starting to look that way given the fact that over the past four months, both Town & Country and Vogue Turkey have failed to do the modeling legend justice. We know the industry is currently trying to make Kaia Gerber happen, but they sure are giving her mom a hard time. Now it’s Tatler that manages to botch up its shoot with the original 90s supermodel, as she fronts the September 2018 issue looking stiff and uncomfortable in the cover photographed by Yu Tsai and styled by Sophie Goodwin.

Our forum members made their feelings clear immediately. “Still mad about their art direction, but the styling is too much for her. It looks like your typical high-fashion moneyed equestrian, but you’d never think this woman was once one of fashion’s most in-demand models,” said Benn98 the moment the cover struck.

“When I see her name in a magazine thread, my heart still skips a beat, because I remember back when I was crazy about her. This isn’t bad by modern-day Cindy standards – but I’m glad I subscribe, because I might not be convinced by this particular cover shot to spend £4+ on it at the newsstand,” noted tigerrouge.
