Sydneysiders Can Enjoy 24/7 Christmas Shopping this Festive Season

Stores across Sydney have been granted around-the-clock trading hours to capitalise on the festive season, with selected retailers and shopping centres now able to stay open 24/7 in the lead-up to Christmas.

The Daily Telegraph reports that, in a retail first for New South Wales, from December 11 right through till Christmas retailers within Sydney CBD, Parramatta, Bondi Junction, Penrith, Blacktown or Liverpool won’t require specific planning approval to be permitted extended opening hours.

Planning Minister Pru Goward told The Daily Telegraph, “Previously, shops would be required to either lodge a new development application or modify their existing planning approval with their local council which, on average, has taken 68 days to have approved.”

He added, “This costs our retailers valuable time and money when trying to apply for a planning approval. This has meant smaller retailers, in the past, would not bother making the effort to extend their trading hours for just two weeks of the year.”

The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) supports the initiative, which they say will not only give retailers a “much-needed boost during the crucial shopping season”, but will also help the ARA reach its hefty sales target this Christmas.

“With only 14 days until Christmas, we’re confident that this move will also support the ARA’s predicted pre-Christmas sales figure of $45 billion to go through retail tills before 24 December 2014,” said Russell Zimmerman, ARA’s executive director in a media release.

It’s also good news for us, who would shop in our sleep if we could. But retail staff could struggle as they turn into hard-working elves, putting up with the unfamiliar graveyard shift to bring everyone festive cheer.

Whether any retailers will take on the 24/7 opportunity is still undetermined, but if they want to stand a chance against online retailers in the current fickle retail landscape, during the busiest time of the year, they should probably make the most of this high-spending period.

Beverly Johnson Says She Was Drugged by Bill Cosby

Image: WENN

Over the past few weeks, several women have come forward to accuse Bill Cosby of drugging and/or raping them, including Janice Dickinson, who said the actor raped her back in 1982. Now, another high-profile name has come forward to say that she, too fell victim to Cosby.

Beverly Johnson penned a column for Vanity Fair in which she says she was drugged by Cosby in the mid-80s. The model auditioned for a small role on The Cosby Show and attended a few tapings before Cosby asked that she visit him at his New York City home to do a reading for the part. Johnson says she brought her daughter along with her at the time. “Looking back, that first invite from Cosby to his home seems like part of a perfectly laid out plan, a way to make me feel secure with him at all times. It worked like a charm.”

Her second visit to Cosby’s residence would not be so rosy. She went over and he offered her a sip of coffee from a fancy espresso machine — and would not let her refuse. “I knew by the second sip of the drink Cosby had given me that I’d been drugged—and drugged good,” Johnson says.

Georgia May Jagger Fronts Vogue Russia in Yet ANOTHER 60s-Inspired Cover (Forum Buzz)

Are you as fed up as we are of seeing models styled in 60s-inspired looks on magazine covers? Georgia May Jagger has turned up on Vogue Russia’s cover doing her best Twiggy impression, captured by Ellen von Unwerth for the magazine’s first issue of 2015. Sporting thick blue eye makeup and a nude lip, Georgia showcases a silk blue checked blouse from Celine, while donning a complementing leather cap by Gucci. But our forum members are far from impressed.

Vogue Russia January 2015 Georgia May Jagger

“Yikes…Worst start of 2015 you can imagine,” ranted an unimpressed anlabe32 within minutes of the cover surfacing on our forums.

“I had to take a step back from my computer,” added Oxymore, shocked at Vogue Russia’s offering this month.

Kite shared his disbelief and posted, “The end is near…this is an abomination…imagine pitching that cover to the publisher.”

Also left underwhelmed and bored by the 60s styling was GivenchyHomme: “I’m beginning to get burned out on the ‘mod’ look. It’s not feeling fresh anymore.”

Forum member anlabe32 soon returned to the thread: “She’s just one of the worst models I’ve ever seen. She’s not even pretty.” Ouch.

“Why is she getting all these covers? Lately she’s everywhere,” asked KateTheGreatest.

“Someone upped the contrast and saturation layers a little too much in the edit room,” noted Cosmic Voices.

Not very good feedback for Russian Vogue‘s new January cover. See more comments and check out a preview inside the thread here.

British Fashion Designer Gareth Pugh Creates V&A’s Christmas Tree

At this time of year, there’s a Christmas tree around each corner in London and everybody wants to have the most talked about tree. Usually, it’s the bigger the better, but that’s simply just not how the V&A competes.

Each year, the V&A commissions a leading designer to create a Christmas tree, which takes pride of place at the museum’s Grand Entrance. Designers either infuse a traditional tree with lavish decorations or alternatively opt for a man-made twist.

This year, the designer of choice is British fashion designer Gareth Pugh, who created a spectacular pyramidal fusion of mirrors stretching over four metres high. The formation of the mirrors not only resembles that of a traditional Christmas tree, but their close arrangement also symbolises the close community feeling synonymous with the festive season.
