Victoria Beckham Is the UK’s Most Successful Entrepreneur

Victoria Beckham is far from her days of trying to decide which little Gucci dress to wear. The former Spice Girl has rebuilt herself into a bona fide fashion designer and things couldn’t be better. She just launched her first stand-alone store in London’s Mayfair and now, according to the Telegraph, she’s being honored by Management Today, topping its list as the U.K.’s most successful entrepreneur of 2014.

Out of 100 businessmen and women, Beckham took the top spot based on the rapid growth of her business over the past five years. She’s gone from a £1 million turnover to £30 million since she started her label. That’s quite a lot of growth!

Indeed, Beckham’s success as a fashion designer is not lost on anyone. Her Victoria Beckham brand has been honored by the British Fashion Council, which in 2011 named it the designer brand of the year. “She gets a lot of stick for being a celeb fashionista but I don’t think that’s fair,” Management Today Deputy Editor Andrew Saunders said. “She has built something real out of her own celebrity which is quite a contemporary story. She deserves to be celebrated.”

If Beckham’s business continues to grow at this rate, we have no doubts she’ll be receiving even more accolades for her work in the future.

Beyoncé and Topshop Join Forces on New Activewear Venture

You may never wake up in the morning to discover that you’ve switched bodies with Beyoncé, but you’ll soon be able to wear her workout clothes. The singer is gearing up to launch her latest apparel venture, for which she is teaming with the retailer that’s probably outfitted her the most these past few years.

Beyoncé has joined forces with Topshop to create Parkwood Topshop Athletic Ltd., a company equally owned by Bey and the fast fashion retailer that’s set to produce athletic streetwear. The project is much more than a simple collaboration — it is an actual company, as Topshop owner Sir Philip Green told WWD. The business will be separate from Topshop. It will have its own staff (Green noted they are looking for a creative director and designers) as well as its own office space.

Bey’s new line with Topshop will sell in stores, although Green says that other retailers will carry the collection. Parkwood Topshop Athletic will sell athletic gear of all stripes, from your run-of-the-mill gymwear to dancewear. The clothing, footwear and accessories label will cater both to serious athletes and to those whose workout routine is just a way to pass time between afternoon tea and making dinner plans.

But before you start clearing out your closet to make space for Beyoncé-branded activewear, keep in mind that we probably won’t see the collection until the fall of next year. Until then, you’ll have to find something else to wear to your Beyoncé-themed dance/workout classes.

Margot Robbie Steps Out of Hiding Wearing Marc Jacobs in New York

Margot Robbie has been steering clear of the red carpet as of late. But her return to the scene, for the 31st Annual FGI Night of Stars event at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street on Thursday, October 23, was well worth the wait.

Her wardrobe was playful-meets-sexy, in a shimmering-green leopard-print Marc Jacobs dress from the label’s Resort 2015 collection. She polished it all off with black strappy Aquazzura pumps and a middle-parted pony.

After a whirlwind of hair colours, including blonde, brunette and copper, Margot has gone back to her natural golden roots, bringing back the sex-appeal she nailed for The Wolf of Wall Street. (more…)

Myer as you knew it is no longer. The department store has replaced its old-fashioned “Myer is my store” slogan with “finding wonderful”, while also excusing its ambassador, Jennifer Hawkins, from the relaunch commercial. Instead, Adelaide actress Tilda Cobham-Hervey, 10 years Jennifer’s junior, has stepped in to take over Jennifer’s duties, if only for a moment.

Myer’s chief merchandise and marketing officer Daniel Bracken told theFashionSpot that “a sense of wonder is evoked by a lesser known talent in this commercial.” The minute-long clip featuring Tilda sees the 20-year-old explore a black-and-white world while reminiscing on the wonderful days, before injecting colour back into our lives with “impossibly-high heels”, “jewels for our fingers” and more to be found at Myer. Designer Sid Neigum Wins 2014 Mercedes-Benz Start Up Competition

Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week is rapidly climbing the ranks of legitimacy and importance on the international stage, and designer Sid Neigum is playing a big role in helping the event grow. The conceptual Canadian designer, who has stockists in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Seoul, was declared this year’s winner of the Mercedes-Benz Start Up competition, an ongoing initiative that supports and promotes emerging Canadian designers.

The award comes with a $30,000 bursary that will be administered by a mentoring team of industry experts who will ensure that the funds are used to the greatest benefit of Neigum’s business. He will also receive editorial support from Canada’s FASHION magazine as well as international publications and a fully produced runway show at the Fall 2015 collections in March.

This season, Neigum dazzled the fashion crowd with a cerebral and inventive spring collection that relied heavily on the laser-cut and draping techniques that are becoming his hallmarks. The black, white and gray collection drew inspiration from origami artistry that resulted in intricately folded and tucked tops and skirts as well as one show-stopping cape. There were also delicate silk separates with geometric cut-outs, elegant Asian-inspired draping and chic minimal lines. This is one designer to watch.
