Alexa Chung Hears Your Prayers, Launches Her Own Fashion Label

Glastonbury, I'm coming in hot with open arms. Need a hug @hunterboots

Your style dreams have come true. Today, television personality, model, trendsetter, Vogue UK contributor and Mulberry-bag inspirer Alexa Chung announced the launch of her own fashion label. The eponymous ready-to-wear line will be sold at Selfridges, Galeries Lafayette, Matchesfashion.com, MyTheresa, SSENSE and its own e-commerce site beginning in May 2017.

Alexachung will feature it all — denim, daywear, eveningwear, shoes, jewelry and other special products. While we’ve known she had it in her for years, the 32-year-old told Business of Fashion she only recently came around to the idea: “I feel as though I’m kind of prepared to do it now. If it had been any time sooner than this, I either wouldn’t be responsible enough or have been able to take on this kind of feat.”

FKA Twigs Resembles an Avatar on ELLE’s Disappointing August Cover (Forum Buzz)

There’s no doubt that ELLE has been stepping up its game of late. After all, it gave us a gorgeous Bella Hadid cover for June and spotlighted the cast of Ghostbusters last month. Therefore, we were surprised to see the questionable styling of FKA Twigs on the new August 2016 cover. Photographed by Paola Kudacki, our forum members appreciated the sight of someone out of the ordinary but weren’t impressed by David Vandewal’s use of Prada on the newsstand cover shot below.

“The text is a mess, and she kind of looks like a CGI game character?” questioned an unimpressed t-rex, the moment the cover dropped just before the weekend.

“She looks like an Avatar,” replied AnaD sharing the same sentiments toward the cover. (more…)

Even a Topless Gisele Bündchen Can’t Save This Givenchy Jeans Campaign (Forum Buzz)

After the hype surrounding Givenchy’s mainline advertising campaign died out (with the ads receiving a bashing on our forums), the brand quickly began to generate buzz via social media by asking followers to guess who the new face of Givenchy Jeans was. A whole host of names were thrown around but we should’ve recognized those golden blond highlights anywhere since it’s Gisele Bündchen fronting the campaign for Fall 2016. Following in the footsteps of Candice Swanepoel and Irina Shayk, Gisele was shot by photographic duo Luigi & Iango as she posed topless on the shoulders of Brazilian actor Cauã Reymond.

So far, members of our forums aren’t exactly jumping for joy over the campaign. “Yes, good to see Gisele in a Givenchy campaign but doing the same pose as their previous ‘Jeans’ stars and so… They wanted to create a hype around nothing. This is just another example that she is more a Givenchy girl than a Chanel girl,” posted an uninspired Lola701.

“If only they’d drop this concept… I’ll never complain about Gisele being in anything but this is so beyond boring,” ranted kokobombon.

“Boring. They could have chosen a cheap random newbie to model for this. Zzzzz,” exclaimed an unimpressed DutchHomme.

Are you a fan? The brand could’ve at least switched up the concept, you must admit. Add your own two cents here.

Steven Meisel and Vittoria Ceretti Deliver the Glamor on Vogue Italia’s July Cover (Forum Buzz)

It has been pretty evident this year that Vogue Italia has been having an identity crisis with the lack of Steven Meisel month after month. Even with help from heavyweight photographers like Mario Testino and Mario Sorrenti, Italian Vogue has been struggling to deliver the goods. But that’s all just changed with the title’s July 2016 offering. Making her debut on the magazine cover is striking Italian beauty Vittoria Ceretti, who was given the honor of posing for Meisel while channeling Italian actress Virna Lisi in the fabulously glamorous cover image. Viva Italia!

The cover was just what our forum members have been craving for all these months. “Finally! Meisel is back in full force! Ceretti looks just stunning!” expressed miguelalmeida at once.

“Yes, I want glamour. Thanks so much for delivering it! I love this. It’s a simple but very powerful image,” kokobombon agreed. (more…)

Dior (Finally!) Finds a Worthy Replacement for Raf Simons

At long last, someone has stepped up to fill Raf Simons’ sizeable shoes (which we imagine have a lingering floral scent). Nine months after the erstwhile Dior creative director made his exit, Sidney Toledano, Dior’s president and chief executive, has confirmed that Maria Grazia Chiuri is the French fashion house’s seventh couturier.

While we were devastated to see Raf go, we’re elated to finally have a woman at the helm of the storied brand. “The idea of hiring a woman is something I had in mind, and this woman was the right one,” Toledano said of the highly anticipated appointment.

Chiuri comes to Paris by way of Rome, where she served as co-creative director of Valentino, alongside Pierpaolo Piccioli. Piccioli and Chiuri have worked side by side for over 25 years — in their previous posts at Fendi, the two helped conceptualize the legendary Baguette bag. (more…)
