The Biggest Celebrity Style Transformations of 2010

From drastic haircuts and full-body overhauls to transformative dye jobs and glamorous make-unders, these celebrities took the saying “new year, new you” to heart in 2010.

2010 was a big year for the pixie cut: as the Harry Potter franchise began to draw to a close this year, star Emma Watson revealed her edgy side with a gorgeous cropped ‘do.

And when Ashlee Simpson‘s son Bronx with Fall Out Boy singer Pete Wentz turned the terrible twos this year, she went with a more trendy version of the ‘mom haircut’, chopping her long black locks into a stylish, and much easier to maintain, platinum pixie.

Those weren’t the only stars who transformed their hair this year. Rihanna traded in her then-iconic crest of blond hair for long, fire-engine red locks, joining the ranks of stars like Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and Katy Perry who dared to rock neon hair this year.

2010 was a huge year for actress Sandra Bullock. From downs like a very public divorce from husband Jesse James to ups like the adoption of a beautiful baby boy, she took her image from Hollywood comedy cutie to serious (and glamorous) actress, winning her first Oscar for Best Actress in The Blind Side and dazzling on the red carpet in a Marchesa gown.

The cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore was back for more hot tubbing, clubbing, and GTL-ing in 2010, but two of the stars were almost unrecognizable. No one could’ve predicted that Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi would deflate her famous pouf this year, opting instead for chic bangs.

And Jenni “J-Woww” Farley glammed up her look from ripped jeans and a seemingly endless supply of Ed Hardy to chic dresses and more natural hair and makeup.

Many stars also revealed new figures this year: Kelly Osbourne may not have won Dancing With the Stars in 2009, but all of that twirling around the dance floor won her a svelte new figure, and with it a more grown-up and chic update of her formerly punked-out style.

The last two years have been extremely difficult for actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, whose mother, brother, and nephew were murdered in their home in 2008. But in 2009, the Oscar winner gave birth to a son, David, with fiance David Otunga, and in 2010 the star revealed a slim post-baby body. She told People, “I’m in the best shape of my life!” adding, “I’ve always been somebody who’s comfortable with myself whether it’s plus-size, small-size, it doesn’t matter.

In January, former star of reality show The Hills, Heidi Montag, graced the cover of People magazine to discuss her addiction to plastic surgery. In October, she flaunted her silicone-enhanced figure and waxy-looking lips, but in December she told Life & Style magazine that she regrets surgically altering her body – an important message about loving what you’ve got, if learned the hard way, that we can take away from these celebrity transformations of 2010.
