Year in Review: Best and Worst Dressed Celebrities of 2010

In this age of celebrity stylists, red carpets have gotten increasingly homogeneous. We can thank our lucky stars, however, for a few A-listers that go against the grain and, for better or worse, take some fashion risks. Here are the best and worst dressed celebrities of 2010.

Best Dressed

Diane Kruger – She relishes the red carpet! A reported muse to Karl Lagerfeld, Kruger is always dressed to the nines, and has inspired countless people with her fashion-forward and feminine approach to fashion.

Zoe Saldana – She may have gotten flack for the Haute Couture Givenchy dress she wore to the 2010 Oscars, with its bottom full of light purple ruffles, but in a sea of boring neutrals, Saldana’s ensembles are pure perfection.

Tilda Swinton – Whether draped in Lanvin or gliding down the red carpet in Jil Sander, Swinton has a completely unique style. And, lest we forget, she gave us the ultimate in fashion porn with her film I am Love, where she was decked out in Hermes accessories, exclusively.

Lady Gaga – Love or hate her bubble and Kermit the Frog dresses, there’s no denying the genius that is Lady Gaga, especially when you see her army of unfortunate imitators (we’re looking at you Katy Perry, Ke$sha, and Nicki Minaj!)

Victoria Beckham – What started with jeans and sunglasses is now, against all the odds, growing into a mini fashion empire. Victoria Beckham’s dresses are simply stunning, and she wears them better than most of the celebrities who wear her creations. Next up, handbags!

Worst Dressed

Leighton Meester – Sure, the young actress is likely trying to distance herself from her Gossip Girl counterpart, but that’s no excuse for wearing a Thom Browne men’s suit, especially when he’s just launched a womenswear collection!

Christina Aguilera – Who thought it could get worse than ass-less chaps? Ill-fitting Herve Leger dresses and over-the-top sequin gowns, combined with long platinum hair and crimson lips just doesn’t add up.

Mariah Carey – After so many years in the limelight, is there any hope that the songbird will ditch the glitter and gold, and learn how to dress for her figure?

Mischa Barton – Polka dot rompers, leopard jackets worn over floral mini dresses, fucsia tights, cropped tops, red pumps, and high-waisted jeans… the list of fashion crimes went on and on for Barton in 2010.

Taylor Momsen – Even when she’s decked out in Pucci and Alexander McQueen, Momsen can be described as little else but a hot mess.
