Style Showdown: Leighton Meester Does it Better

style showdown

Sometimes stars get it right, and sometimes they need another celeb to step in and show 'em how it's done — like Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, whose impeccable style rarely fails. Here's a look at some celebrity fashion hits and misses:

Trend: Floral Midi-Skirt

Miss: Lisa Snowdon arrived at Jennifer Hudson's party at the Ivy Club in London in this hideous floral midi-skirt and top combination. The tacky pattern and outdated silhouette of the former Britain's Next Top Model host's outfit wouldn't win any fashion competition.

Hit: The high waist on the silk floral midi skirt by Vera Wang that Leighton Meester wore for the ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building with the designer was much more current, and her pairing of Brian Atwood gold platform slingbacks and a neutral sleeveless top complete the stunning look.

Trend: Shorts with Tights and a Floral Blouse

Miss: Jennifer Hudson left ITV Studios in London in high-waisted olive green shorts layered over black footless tights, a wide belt, floral blouse, and black fedora. The outfit might have worked if the pieces fit Hudon properly — the rumply look of the pleated shorts and the oversized draping of the blouse don't do anything to show off Hudson's great figure.

Hit: The Gossip Girl costumers succeeded where Hudson failed when Meester rocked a startlingly similar look Season 4, Episode 13. Her floral printed top and pink high-waisted shorts by Organic by John Patrick over patterned tights by Hue fit her perfectly, and the fun but sophisticated look is completed with a pearl beaded top by Valentino and leather Salvatore Ferragamo belt.

Trend: Cut-Out Dress

Miss: Former Cheetah Girls member Adrienne Bailon wore this SENA studded cut-out dress to the OK Magazine Sexy Singles party. Unfortunately, she might stay single in this unsexy dress—the too-large studded chest cutouts don't flatter her, and the V-shaped fabric in the front stretches awkwardly.

Hit: At a special screening of her film The Roommate in Los Angeles, Meester worked two trends, cut-outs and leather, in a Pre-Fall 2011 Michael Kors black leather and jersey gown. The dramatic look was finished by her sleek straight hair.
