Red Carpet: 2011 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala

If only red carpets were always as exciting as they were at the 2011 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala, held yesterday at the Hotel Du Cap in Antibes, France. In fact, even stars like Michelle Rodriguez, not exactly a fashion trendsetter, stunned in a light pink Jean Fares Couture gown this year.

A number of celebrities went with light-colored or white looks, most notably Brooke Shields in a bridal-worthy, draped white Marchesa Spring 2011 look, Naomi Campbell in a nude fringed Fall 2010 Givenchy Fall Haute Couture creation and, also in a lightly-hued Givenchy Haute Couture piece was, believe it or not, Courtney Love. Sadly, while the Riccardo Tisci-designed dress from the Spring 2011 collection is nothing short of intricately stunning, Love’s disheveled look didn’t do it justice.

Karolina Kurkova has been consistently wowing in Cannes these past few days and she stayed on that trajectory in an embellished Chanel Fall 2011 Haute Couture mini. Also in Chanel Haute Couture was Kirsten Dunst in a gown with an on-trend sheer skirt.

It wasn’t all soft neutrals on the red carpet, however. Fan Bing Bing walked the red carpet in a popping strapless Louis Vuitton bustier gown and Jane Fonda went with a beaded long sleeved Roberto Cavalli look. Questions of age-appropriateness aside, Fonda’s confidence is inspiring.

Standing out in black were an Emilio Pucci-clad Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Gwen Stefani who glammed it up in a custom halter mermaid L.A.M.B. gown (with husband Gavin Rossdale).
