Several stars skipped safer alternatives this week by opting for lesser known designers, unique color combinations, fresh fits and unexpected detailing.

Not everyone has fallen in love with the Yigal Azrouël Resort 2012 dress Olivia Wilde donned for the 10th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball. Reaction has ranged from everything to stunning to schoolmarmish. While it's true that this Chantilly lace gown with jewel encrusted belt would come across a bit frumpy on many celebs, Olivia manages to pull it off with relative ease and her slightly disheveled ponytail along with that Salvatore Ferragamo clutch help polish the overall presentation. Fluorescent green accented with a coral neoprene belt may not seem like a fashion "do" but Diane Kruger proved otherwise at the Liaisons Au Louvre II Charity Gala Dinner in Paris. Her elegantly embroidered Alessandra Rich Spring/Summer 2011 creation featured a lace bodice and those nude heels played a supportive, rather than distracting, role.

An unconventional New York City garden party was the setting for Stella McCartney’s unveiling of her Resort 2012 collection. The outdoor event posed a tricky style dilemma for attendees. Decked out in a black Stella McCartney Resort 2010 jacket, embroidered top, bright red shorts, and espadrilles, Naomi Watts got it right looking simultaneously casual and sophisticated. Blake Lively has been all over the media dutifully promoting Green Lantern, but it was her appearance at the 2011 Ghetto Film School Spring Benefit that actually earned her a spot on this week's list. The actress paired a floral print top and flashy ruffled mini copied verbatim from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Resort 2012 lookbook. Christian Louboutin Fifi embellished heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry rounded out the look.

Eva Longoria walked the red carpet at the 2011 Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund Awards in Washington, DC wearing a delicate one-shoulder jade green Monique Lhuillier Spring 2011 number. The TV star also sported a Jean-Jacques by Lena Erziak round clutch and white satin ankle strap heels. The custom black Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci Alicia Keys selected for the 2011 Keep A Child Alive Black Ball in London had a dramatic bustier. What really made this look stand out, though, were the accents like the black ostrich feathers on the skirt, gold metal belt, and satin clutch.

Tea-length can be a hard hem to master, but Temperley London's Fall 2011 pale frock looked charming on Emma Roberts as she hit the after party for the New York screening of The Art of Getting By. The strapless embellished gown wasn't an exact runway replica since the young actress ditched the currently trending Peter Pan collar blouse. Casadei pumps, Amrapali earrings and rings courtesy of Adeler and KumKum completed the look. One celeb who did opt for the collar was Carey Mulligan when she attended the Junior Spring Benefit for Lincoln Center Event in New York City. Her nude Valentino Fall 2011 dress had laser cut detailing and sheer sleeves. Carey does get a few points taken off, however, thanks to those heavy brown Yves Saint Laurent pumps.

At first glance, the seafoam Marc Jacobs prom dress Elle Fanning wore to the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards seemed to overwhelm even the statuesque 13-year-old star of Super 8. Upon closer inspection though, the detailing and asymmetrical layering makes this gown a stellar selection especially when combined with those coral-colored open-toed heels. For the Madrid photocall for Bad Teacher, Cameron Diaz worked an of-the-moment white Equipment romper and red tweed Elizabeth and James blazer. Accessories included a coordinating patent belt, nude Sergio Rossi footwear, and a hefty Giles & Brother necklace.
