Style Showdown: Heather Morris’ U-Glee Acid Wash and More

Sometimes stars get it right, and sometimes they need another celeb to step in and show ’em how it’s done. Here’s a look at celebrity hits and misses, from Heather Morris’ u-Glee acid wash and Christina Sajous’ peek-a-boo bellybutton to Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s fashionable floral and Gwyneth Paltrow’s dramatic draping.

Trend: Denim Romper

Miss: Heather Morris plays a clueless cheerleader on Glee, and maybe she was method acting when she picked out this ensemble to party at Mahiki Club in London. The low waist on her acid wash denim romper hides her figure, and the accessories are mismatched—her striped beanie, black booties, and red lipstick all seem pulled from divergent ensembles. The actress is hilarious on Glee, so let’s hope this outfit was just a big joke.

Hit: Cameron Diaz swung a series of fashion home runs on her tour promoting Bad Teacher, including the denim romper by Akris that she wore on German television show Wetten Dass. The belted silhouette showed off her shape and the boatneck added a stylish twist to the playful romper.

Trend: Wide-leg Jumpsuit

Miss: At the Serpentine Gallery summer party, British-Iranian model Yasmin Le Bon was caught somewhere between runway resort and linebacker. Wide-leg jumpsuits and bare midriffs are both trendy with celebs this season, but Le Bon’s grass green onesie featured pants so voluminous that they obscured her feet and an unsexy opening at the belly—is that a peak of white underwear? What’s more, the addition of the fur shrug made little sense in July.

Hit: Jenna Dewan-Tatum looked like she was on a shoot as she crossed the street in a trendy floral wide-leg jumpsuit. The ruffled neckline and lace-up wedge Louboutins gave the look a summery seventies feel, and her choice to keep the accessories to a minimum was spot-on.

Trend: Draping

Miss: Apparently the peek-a-boo belly button thing is trending, because Broadway star Christina Sajous gave her navel center stage at the Damages season 4 premiere in a draped, off-the-shoulder LBD that looked unfortunately like a curtain.

Hit: Gwyneth Paltrow’s draped Alexander Wang dress was a perfect blend of edgy and classic (think ancient Greece) at the Bent on Learning fundraiser in NYC. The silvery draping on the dress was incredibly flattering and her copper-strapped platform sandals and sleek golden hair complemented the metallic evening look.
