From polo matches to premieres, the past week was marked by some high-profile events. Resort collections are still quite popular and celebs also continued displaying a real dedication to couture. Even though a lot of big names were expected to make fashionable statements at these events, a few lesser-known attendees also managed to make stellar showings.
Actress Zoe Saldana looked summer-ready during The Foundation Polo Challenge at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in a floral print Chloé Resort 2012 maxi paired with a Lanvin clutch, Valentino wedges as well as jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels. The French fashion house actually initially offered up a flutter-sleeved version, but this sleeveless incarnation was ideal for the outdoor event. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge donned Alexander McQueen to the formal BAFTA Brits to Watch Event, but it was the Jenny Packham Spring 2011 dress she selected to watch her husband play polo which earned her another spot on this week's list. Gugu Mbatha-Raw's name may not be well-known in Hollywood yet, but this rising style star made her presence felt at the BAFTA Event. The British actress, who stars alongside Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in Larry Crowne, more than held her own at the gala wearing a cobalt cap-sleeved chiffon Reem Acra Resort 2012 gown with draped skirt. She went minimalist with the accessories simply favoring earrings and a golden clutch. There was a lot going on besides the Royal visit to California, though. Sarah Jessica Parker does not have a role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, but she certainly made an impression on the New York City red carpet even if it was relatively subdued for this fashion-conscious actress. Her multicolor patterned satin chiffon dress is from Oscar de la Renta's Resort 2012 offering and was smartly partnered with a navy Salvatore Ferragamo blazer as well as a golden bucket bag.
While Emma Watson has been looking flawless at the various Harry Potter premieres, this light blue Prada number with sequin detailing on the contrasting white collar and cuffs was a fresh choice. The young actress was projecting a definite Twiggy vibe during her recent Today show appearance, especially in combination with her pixie cut and those spunky Alexa heels by Brian Atwood. Co-star Clémence Poésy went with Chanel for the Parisian leg of the premiere circuit. Although her hair wasn't as styled as previous showings, this Spring 2011 Couture dress made up for her disheveled mane.
Nicole Kidman wore couture Elie Saab to the BAFTA party, and chose another of the designer’s creations for the Cinema Society screening of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan at the Tribeca Grand Hotel. This red Resort 2012 dress featured a waist peplum detail and was accessorized with a L’Wren Scott clutch, Cathy Waterman jewelry and Jimmy Choo heels. Zooey Deschanel’s colorful Kate Spade floral frock was perfectly animated for the Los Angeles Winnie the Pooh premiere. Kate Spade was also behind her Victoria Falls Samira clutch and nude pumps rounded out the ensemble.
