Trend Spotlight: Return of the Bell Sleeve

The bell sleeve is probably the only style of clothing that has the power to simultaneously conjure images of medieval maidens, wizard’s robes, and Austin Powers’ babes—but we may soon be adding stylish celebrities to that list. Elle Fanning, Kate Moss, and other celebs have recently been seen draping their arms in the bell sleeve, which has long been relegated to costume status. Check out their looks.

Elle Fanning may be only a tween, but she looked timeless in a vintage cream gown decorated with scalloped beading and Lanvin wedges at the Super 8 premiere. Her long and loose center-parted hair, fair coloring, and sheer bell sleeves gave her an undeniably ethereal look. Jennifer Hudson performed in Central Park for ABC’s Good Morning America wearing a Givenchy bell-sleeved white blouse with sheer black shoulders tucked into a high-waist full black miniskirt. The volume of the Stevie Knicks-esque top enhanced her movement.

Celebrity brides are also choosing gowns with bell sleeves for their big day. Lily Allen looked dreamlike in her empire waist Chanel wedding reception dress with sheer bell sleeves designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Kate Moss chose an aqua vintage gown with bell sleeves and a flowing skirt, Tabitha Simmons boots, and a crushed velvet clutch which gave the slightly 70s look a renaissance-inspired vibe.
