Marion Cotillard’s Fashion-Forward French Style

French actress Marion Cotillard not only won an Oscar, but she’s even appeared in Lady Dior advertisements. She continues to land numerous movie roles appearing in films like Inception as well as Woody Allen‘s Midnight in Paris and is currently filming The Dark Knight Rises. The 35-year-old also has an extensive fashion resume, routinely turning heads on the red carpet.

Marion certainly impressed at the 80th Annual Academy Awards in February 2008. She picked up her Oscar for La Vie en Rose wearing a custom ivory Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2008 Couture mermaid-style gown. When it comes to the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, celebs are expected to take a few fashion risks. Marion played it relatively safe, though, in a pink strapless embellished Christian Dior back in May 2009.

For the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival premiere of Public Enemies the following month, Marion opted for this patterned Elie Saab Fall 2009 cowl neck dress. Silver Jimmy Choo satin pumps picked up on the metallic tones and she also carried Elie Saab’s blue python clutch. Public Enemies then went on to premiere in the UK several days later. The screening took place in London’s Leicester Square and Marion donned a red Vivienne Westwood strapless satin bustier dress partnered with an oversized Stella McCartney clutch, black Dior peep-toes and a surprisingly sophisticated take on the mullet.

At the film’s Paris premiere that July, she was back in Christian Dior. The pale pink frock with front tie is from the Resort 2010 offering and those flashy burgundy wedges are John Galliano. Since Marion appeared in Lady Dior campaigns, it’s not surprising that her red carpet fallback is Dior. Nine‘s New York premiere in December 2009 saw the actress in a white strapless column gown with embroidered bodice by the fashion house combined with long Chopard necklaces and a black Judith Leiber clutch.

White was also the color of the one-shoulder Elie Saab Fall 2009 Couture draped dress with floral applique she selected for the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in January 2010. Marion carried another Judith Leiber clutch and wore Chopard jewelry. Lefranc Ferrant‘s Fall 2010 metallic jumpsuit was a daring choice for the Chopard 150th Anniversary Party during the 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival in May of last year. Jimmy Choo Marble booties and, of course, Chopard gems served as accessories.

It was Lefranc Ferrant once again for the 35th Toronto International Film Festival showing of Little White Lies in September 2010. This time, the fashionable star wore a little black dress featuring a flap shoulder detail and edgy buckle Dior ankle boots. Never afraid to think out-of-the-box, Marion attended the Marrakech International Film Festival Opening Ceremony last December decked out in a printed halter Christian Dior Spring 2011 maxi with feathered shoulder accents. Even though the modified dress and matching blue footwear strikes the wrong chord, the star’s adventurous attitude is admirable.
