Style Showdown: How to Wear Pleats, Sequins and Menswear Shirts

From Emma Stone’s pleasing pleats to Elizabeth Olsen’s menswear miss, see which stars got it right—and which ones should fire their stylists.

Trend: Pleats

Hit: Emma Stone wears pleats well in this bright pink dress with asymmetrical hemline. The pleat is really more of a detail and not an overwhelming part of the dress’ skirt so it reads as an unexpected and interesting flourish to an otherwise plain shift (in a shocking pink though).

Miss: We really hate to say anything bad about Chloe, but Olivia Wilde does not wear this pleated mint green Chloe frock well. The dress wrinkles easily and along with her somewhat messy hairstyle, the overall look is not as polished as Emma’s.

Trend: Sequins

Hit: Kendall Jenner’s sequin dress is in a gorgeous color with a subtle piping detail and lovely sleeves. The mini keeps the sequins from being overwhelming.

Miss: Rose McGowan’s dress is fierce, but not very fashion forward like Kendall’s. The head-to-toe sparkle looks like a costume for a figure skater playing the part of a mermaid.

Trend: Men’s shirt

Hit: Diane Kruger is perfection in a cobalt blue tuxedo blazer and men’s shirt, paired with the perfect feminine accessories including her clutch, strappy sandals, and berry pink lip stain. Few could pull it off as well as she does, but it really works.

Miss: Elizabeth Olsen (a.k.a. Ashley and Mary-Kate’s sister) gets points for her awesome bib necklace and flawless face, but the shirt really needed to be tucked into her skirt and she should have chosen a less clunky shoe.
