Noomi Rapace was the original girl with the dragon tattoo, and now this Swedish actress is leaving her mark on Hollywood. She plays Madam Simza Heron in the latest Sherlock Holmes flick and is set to star alongside big names like Charlize Theron and Ben Kingsley. Noomi loves taking fashionable risks and often meets with success, but there are rare instances when her gamble doesn't pay off.

Take the polka dot and striped Carolina Herrera Resort 2012 creation she wore to the Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows premiere in London earlier this month. The black and white gown certainly had a lot going on and Noomi's accessories, including Giuseppe Zanotti heels and David Webb jewelry, as well as her messy coif didn't contribute much to the overall look. For the Los Angeles leg of the recent release’s promotional circuit, however, Noomi was elegance personified in Valentino. Her luxe embroidered halter gown even included pockets and was teamed with a pair of Sutra earrings along with Jimmy Choo pumps.

The actress almost always makes a statement on the red carpet. Balmain's bold shoulder mini from the brand's Fall 2010 collection was an interesting choice for the extremely formal Venice Film Festival back in September 2010. Noomi made sure to keep the focus on the gold floral beaded dress at the La passione premiere by adding in a pair of muted heels. A couple of days later at the Beyond premiere, she donned a lacy Elie Saab Fall 2010 black gown featuring a high slit. Simple black platform pumps finished off the look.

The star switched into another Elie Saab later on for the Raavanan premiere. This forest green embroidered gown had cut out details at the front and back. When it came time for the 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala in Beverly Hills in October 2010, Noomi sported a white strapless frock. Both the dress and her heels were by Alexander McQueen.

It was Givenchy couture for the Orange British Academy Film Awards this February in London. Noomi's corseted gown was amplified by striking metallic embellishments. The French fashion house was also behind her gold shoes and she polished off the flashy look with a spiked belt. Viktor & Rolf's draped little black dress was Noomi's wardrobe at the Empire Film Awards 2011 the following month. She accessorized with Christian Louboutin Daffodil platform pumps and a sparkling Alexander McQueen clutch.

Truly a lady in red at the London premiere of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy this September, Noomi donned this zip-detailed Antonio Berardi wool-crepe dress with asymmetric lapel. A Louis Vuitton studded minaudière Trésor brode and red platforms by Charlotte Olympia served as accessories. She tapped into the menswear trend for the Babycall photocall in late October during the 6th International Rome Film Festival. Her Viktor & Rolf Resort 2012 black tuxedo was partnered with a red blouse and fringed Christian Louboutin footwear.
Noomi may experience the occasional fashion misstep, but we adore the star's truly adventurous sense of style.
