Get the Celeb Look: Leather Skirts

Sometimes it’s the little touches that take your outfit from average to enviable. Celebrities have stylists to calculate all the complicated nuances of putting together a look, but we aren’t all so fortunate. Luckily, tFS has put together some celeb-inspired styling tips and tricks to help you put together a look that’s got that extra oomph! This week, Gretchen Jones, Mollie Kingand Jane Keltner de Valle show us how to make a leather skirt preppy, professional, or party-ready.

Tip #1: A prim button-down lends a touch of prep to a flared leather skirt

Director of fashion news for Teen Vogue, Jane Keltner de Valle, struck a balance between edgy and preppy by tucking a sheer pastel button-down into a black leather skirt. The skirt’s flared edge gives it a more feminine feel than a straight leather mini would, and details like her slide sandals and the buttoned up blouse keep the look fresh. For cooler weather, make it a chic suit with a black or camel blazer and cozy tights.

The pencil skirt is a classic professional staple, but just because you’re at work doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. Kick things up in a leather pencil skirt like the one Project Runway winner Gretchen Jones wore to New York Fashion Week. Jones color blocked in a bright orange leather pencil skirt and jade chiffon blouse. Add a statement necklace and lace-up booties, and you’ve got a winning look.
