Oscars 2012: Red Carpet Fashion Review

Eyes were also on Michelle Williams in a coral Louis Vuitton that took 300 hours to fashion! Made of burnt silk mousseline and organza ribbons, Williams looked adorable with her pixie cut depite the gown being a little too prom-looking for my personal taste. Also somewhat prom-looking was Octavia Spencer‘s Tadashi Shoji. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Jessica Chastain opted for an ornate Alexander McQueen bustier gown made with black silk organza, gold bullion, and metal thread – more impressive than her dress, however, were the $2 million worth of Harry Winston rocks she wore.

Tina Fay was Carolina Herrera’s exclusive and while I’m personally over seeing peplums, the fact that they’re still strong on the Fall 2012 runways, means that most people aren’t. Another actress the fashion world has their eyes on is Emma Stone and while it feels as though we’ve seen a look much like her red Giambattista Valli gown with an oversized neck bow tie a number of times before (notably, Nicole Kidman in a similar red Balenciaga at the 2007 Oscars), she still looked beautiful. Similarly been there/seen that was Penelope Cruz in a Giorgio Armani blue grey off-the-shoulder organza evening gown – yes it was beautiful, but also somewhat of a snooze. Angelina Jolie wore a simple strapless black Atelier Versace gown with thigh high slit — gorgeous, but again the same old silhouette we’ve seen from her.

The best dressed of the night, in my opinion, were Stacy Keibler in a languid Marchesa, Rose Byrne in a black sparkling Vivienne Westwood, Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford (our first peek at a look from his Fall 2012 collection!), and Milla Jovovich in an Elie Saab Couture gown with a sculpted shoulder. See all these looks and more in our slideshow.
