Leading British female singers took their styles stateside this week as they attended the Elle Women in Music 2012 event in Hollywood. The annual event aims to celebrate female recording artists' musical talent and success, so it's also a great way for us to check out some celeb style. British singers invited along included Ellie Goulding, and the current dernier cri of the Brit Pop scene, Jessie J.
Jessi burst on to the British music scene with hit Do It Like a Dude, which reached number two in the UK charts, and she won the acclaimed 2011 Critic’s Choice Brit Award. She is currently also a judge on the UK talent show The Voice alongside Tom Jones, Will.i.am, and Danny O’Donaghue. Jessi is probably as equally well known for her edgy style as she is her music. She typically favors skin tight body suits, and is no stranger to quirky beauty trends — hello, dip dyed hair and crazy lip art. She arrived at the Elle event in a figure hugging black leopard print dress and later changed into a skin tight bright leopard print jumpsuit for her performance.
Ellie is renowned for her mesmerising voice, and was even asked by William and Kate to perform at their private wedding reception last year. Her look is usually more laid back London casual than glamorous, and she actually seems to be trying to look a little more rocker as of late, if her new partly shaven hair is anything to go by. In hand with her slight change of image, she opted for leather trousers, a tight fitted vest, and an edgy leather jacket for the event. Check out that amazing flame detail on the back of her jacket!
Melody Thornton in Bad Taste
We can't mention this event without wondering what on earth Melody Thornton was thinking with this look. The American singer attended the event in a sheer dress, which left almost nothing to the imagination. If anything, it garnered her some global media attention but her choice of outfit was undoubtedly in bad taste. Borrow Ellie's jacket and cover up dear, or you'll catch a chill!
