Style Showdown: Seeing Double at the Emmys

Trend #1: Neon Yellow

You would think a neon yellow dress would stand out on the red carpet—after all, it’s fashioned out of the same color that we use for hazard signs. That’s why it was surprising to see three actresses all taking the risk of wearing this bold color. Modern Family actress Julie Bowen’s chartreuse gown with a layered mermaid skirt was by Monique Lhuillier, Julianne Moore’s dress by Dior covered her head-to-toe in sunshine yellow, and Claire Danes wore a lemony Lanvin sack dress that showed off her baby bump. Though not all of these eye-catching gowns might’ve been hits, each certainly shows us that neon yellow goes well with one thing—an Emmy award. All three actress took home trophies for their performances.

Trend #2: Criss-Cross

You have to respect a mature actress like Glenn Close (who was nominated for her role in Damages) for wearing such an out-there look as her Bibhu Mohaptra dress with it’s eye-catching criss-cross design. However, it was clear that the geometrics were better left to January Jones and her high-drama dress. Trend #3: Glittering V-Necks

Actresses Kerry Washington and Kate Mara stepped onto the red carpet styled to evoke classic old Hollywood glamour. Both actress’s dresses featured elegantly draped V-necks, all-over sparkle, and figure-flattering skirts, and both went with a sexy slicked side part for their hair. Washington’s look had all the glitz of a disco ball with her silver sequin-covered Vivienne Westwood gown, while Mara’s Badgley Mischka design played up the actress’s feminine side with embellished floral appliqués
