Leather jackets aren’t just for bikers’ girlfriends and punk chicks anymore. Rebel against the norm and wear the classic bad girl emblem even with pretty dresses and poppy colors. This spring’s must-have outerwear is the leather jacket, and it comes in all types—quilted, perforated, cropped or studded.
Fashion month’s runways were all about the juxtaposition of soft and hard; Acne Studios, Jean Paul Gaultier and Tracy Reese showed tough leather motorcycle jackets worn over fluttery feminine dresses.

Celebs already have a jump on the trend—Laura Whitmore was spotted in the front row at Felder Felder wearing a leather vest, a warm-weather spin on the classic leather jacket that will be your friend when the season changes. Jessica Alba looked ultra-cool in a studded version, which she balanced with tights and a girly ruffled skirt. Angelababy practically turned the leather jacket into sophisticated formalwear when she wore a sleek blazer-like version over a powder blue shift at the Christian Dior show. Miley Cyrus showed that wearing a leather jacket with a long dress is all about proportions—she celebrated her Cosmopolitan cover in a white maxi dress with a cropped motorcycle jacket that emphasized her waistline. We’re super envious of Alyssa Campanella’s perforated leather jacket at the Lacoste show—the piece’s alternating stripes of leather and mesh create an outstanding floating illusion.

Jena Malone showed off a chic way to wear leather—she draped her collarless jacket over the shoulders of a coordinating leather dress at the J. Mendel presentation. Miranda Kerr displayed her effortless street style in a very wearable quilted leather jacket, which could just as easily rock over a minidress as it does with skinnies. Naomie Harris did head-to-toe leather at ITV Studios—her Willow jacket’s peplum dresses up the trend and can be worn as a stand-alone piece.
